Acyclovir Side Effects

Acyclovir 200 mg. 2x a day. Can the side effect,"change in the amount of urine" in older people, apply to INCREASE in the amount of urine?(male, age 90) undergoing chemo.

No, that's not a common side effect of Acyclovir, the FDA lists the most common ones as including nausea, dizziness, diarrhea and headache.

However, most times, when someone is prescribed this medication, they are told to drink a lot of water, or are given a lot of water by their care givers, which could explain the change in urine volume. In rare cases, this medication has caused kidney crystals, which could lead to kidney failure, so most people are told to take it with lot of water, to help prevent this from occurring.
