Went to dentist last Monday for abscessed tooth. Prescribed Augmentin 3 per day. On Thursday, pain was worse. Dentist opened to tooth, put meds in tooth, and prescribed penicillin 4 per day. Also have cellulitis in face from middle of chin/lip up halfway to my jaw on left side. Pain is not as bad as it was before tooth was opened, but still hurts. Lip is beginning to swell. What should be my next step in recovery? Thanks!

Hello, Ann! How are you? I'm very sorry about the problem that you're having.
How long have you been taking the Penicillin?
The general rule with antibiotics is that if it's working, you shouldn't see any worsening after taking it for a full 24 hours and you should start to see improvement after taking it for a full 3 days.
The FDA lists the typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, diarrhea and non-allergic skin rash.
If you've been taking it longer than 3 days and have seen no improvement and it is still worsening, then you'll need to see your doctor or dentist, again, as you may require a stronger antibiotic, or you may need to take more than one, at once, to eradicate this infection.
