Hello, Peg! How are you?
While most of our calcium is absorbed by our teeth and bones, there's usually about 1% that streams through our blood. Overtime, as we age, it can start to leave deposits in the arteries and is especially problematic, when it's in the coronary arteries.
The higher the score, the more significant the calcium deposits and the higher the person is at risk of cardiovascular events.
Anything from 101 to 400 is significant of definite, at least moderate, atherosclerotic plaque, which means there is a high likelihood that they have mild coronary artery disease with significant narrowing of the arteries as possibility.
This is the basic summation provided by the NIH.
Is there anything else I can help with?
