Zohydro Works
UpdatedI started taking Zohydro for my chronic pain last night. I had the first full nights sleep I've had in many years. I woke up refreshed and was able to get some housework done today. It's sad that people will die from abusing this drug, but then some of them chose this path knowing the risks. I did not choose to have this debilitating pain. For me and others like me it is a Godsend. It's not that easy to obtain. Once prescribed it has to be approved by the government which takes about a week. Then the pharmacy has to order it. It's expensive even with insurance. For me, $177 a month as opposed to $10.17 a month for Norco.

Hello, Cindy! How are you? I'm glad that it's working well for you.
It is a time released formulation of Hydrocodone. This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation.
It's also limited in use to only people for whom other pain relief options failed.
Are there any other questions or concerns?
Prescriptions Do Not have to be approved by the government. If Medicare or Medicaid pays for your prescriptions, it probably requires a Prior Authorization, but that is only because your insurance requires it. If you didn't have insurance through a governmental agency, there would be no need for approval.
Thanks for that information. I do have insurance through the postal service. Glad you could clarify that for others. I had no idea that was the reason. I apologize to those I might have mislead.
Vernon I researched thoroughly before making the decision to use Zohydro. I've taken Norco for years with no problems but the pain was so bad the hour to an hour and a half that I could not function but I never took it earlier than I was supposed to. I don't expect any problems. I would like to thank you for your concern. Nice to know people care.
Was it hard to get your prescription filled?
Hi i recently had zohydro prescribed 15mg tablet seems like one is wearing off before twelve hours and dont feel the same as hydrcodone not as much energy.
I'm taking 30mg tid Zohydro after trying literally every other narcotic available. Since taking hydrocodone/APAP (Norco, Lortab et al) for years, the rollercoaster caused by the IR nature of Norco was destroying my quality of life, not to mention the inevitable dosage ceiling predicated by new APAP max dosage regulations by FDA. Zohydro came along at just the right time.
I've noticed a few things worth noting about the differences between the two formulations; I had to play with the equianalgesic "sweet spot" a bit, as Zohydro isn't a straight MG-MG equivalency in terms of analgesic value, or even how apparent the dosage you've taken is impacting your overall disposition. When taking Norco, for example, it's quite easy to sense how much you've taken, how long it's been since taking a dose etc. Easy peasy. Zohydro is much more ambiguous in this context, matter of fact the "side effects" as such, are rather sneaky and arguably quite seemingly vague. So without sensing much of anything unless my pain is being mitigated a considerable amount.
Until then, you're basically unawares, and essentially feel undermedicated for the most part. If I take a 10mg Norco to assist in controlling pain, I can easily feel this non-extended release formulation, and feel much more cognizant and aware of the sort of "trajectory" of the half-life and effect's duration.
I applaud the value of a hydrocodone product without being combined with the toxic acetaminophen, no doubt. But so strange is the experience difference between Zohydro ER vs Norco IR, that I'm honestly curious how in the hell chemists managed to change hydrocodone so drastically simply by dipping the little beads in an extended release coating.
I've take 1/3 of the Zohydro beads and thoroughly crushed them to see if deactivating the delayed release produced a drug more similar in traditional hydrocodone preparations (combined with a 300mg APAP just to be authentic). The resulting product was essentially just the same as the original Zohydro formulation, but perhaps more immediate in onset.
Most of all, I find Zohydro to entirely lack the oft-welcome energizing side effect experienced with Norco. How can this drug be so different than the iconic hydro/APAP combo?
Could SODAS® (Spheroidal Oral Drug Absorption System), the mechanism chosen by Zogenix to manage absorption variables, be the culprit here? Possible, no?
Can anyone possibly address this?
Yes vety difficult have you had any luck?
I'm with you 100% it is not the same! Taking Zohydro 20mg for 2wks from 4 Norco 10/325 4x a day. My pain is worse I have been in bed throwing up with severe headaches which I did not experience on the Norco. I was able to function be a mom & now I lay in bed all day with zero productivity! I don't understand. I can't live like this.
I totally agree! I've been on zohydro 40 mg for three weeks now and the headaches are so horrible and my pain relief is nonexistent if it was for the 10/325 norco the Dr prescribed which is a 1/4 of the norco I've been on for 5 years I'd be super miserable ..the headaches are not worth taking this anymore and next Dr appt I'm asking to discontinue
My Doctor has me on 200 10/325 Norco every 20 days, killing my liver. I want to try Zohydro but i have Kaiser insurance, and they do not offer Zohydro. I want to change carriers. Can someone please tell me a doctor in Orange or LA county that prescribes Zohydro. Please help.
I've been taking lortab 10 for a year now. But now when i take it i get a terrible stomachache and sometimes vomiting. Is there a substitute without acetaminophen that works as well as the lortab?

What is a peasy?
