Yellow Dye 5
UpdatedFor the first time I took a tablet called letrozole which is generic for Femara 2.5 mg. It is yellowish in color and I called the manufacturer before taking since i have a pretty serious reaction to yellow dye #5 and they assured me the color was from ferrous oxide not yellow dye. An hour after taking the tablet, I had lip swelling and rash across shoulders and back. Took a benadryl and went to bed. Some difficulty in swallowing for the next few days and a rash that didn't clear for 4 days. Lips still peeling and raw. Because I need to take this tablet to prevent recurrence of breast cancer, I am concerned and ready to try another tab without the yellow color. Wondering if this would be a safe idea.

Glad the pharmacy and the Oncologist have ordered a new generic for Femera. Hoping that a white pill without Yellow dye # 5 will not cause an allergic reaction. Got my Epi-pen and Benadryl ready and I am going to be lunching in the hospital's cafeteria when I take it. Can't believe natural food coloring isn't used in medications.Lots of substitutes out there.
It might not have been the dyes in the pill that you were allergic to, it could just have easily been another ingredient.
It's a known fact that someone who is allergic to one thing usually has other crop up at some point, even if they aren't related.

Have you gotten the new one yet? If so, did you have any problems with it?
Given a new estrogen blocking drug called Aromasin. Blood pressure steadily climbed for a week while taking this and it has taken another week to get the pressure back under control. Now I will try the white letrazole tablets. It seems incredible that I have had adverse reactions to two of the estrogen blocking drugs......
