Xolair Works For Chronic Hives (Top voted first)

Updated

I have had chronic hives for 10+ years. I've taken Prednisone, Benedryl, Zantac, Zyrtec & Several other medications to lesson the effects of this awful curse. Finally decided to try Xoliar 4 days ago. At first my hives were SOOOO much worse! Probably the worst they have been in a year. Then all of the sudden I woke up give free! No medications for 2 days. I know it's not a very long trial period but I want to shout from the rooftops!!! Someone who has this would know the overwhelming feeling to just not take these medications for 1 day & Xolair did it for me. You just have no idea how happy I am!!

Hello, Madison! How are you? I am so glad that you found something that's helping and I hope it continues for you!

I've not had chronic hives, but I have gotten them very severely from acute allergic reactions and I couldn't imaging having them all the time, that would have to drive you crazy.

Have you experienced any of the side effects that the FDA lists, such as nausea, dizziness, headache and dry mouth?

Hi, :) So you're saying after the Xolair there were two days of feeling a lot worse and then 2 days of being hive-free? I just want to make sure I'm understanding your post correctly. :) I tolerated the first dose of Xolair, but the 2nd month am reacting terribly (anaphylaxis) to it. It's already been a week and no improvement.

I had my first Xolair treatment 2 weeks ago. After 3 days my hives disappeared, but I also had sinus and respiratory symptoms-also sore throat and painful ears. 2 weeks later I have some small hives, but no real itch. I still take Zyrtec twice a day. The question is how to pay. Very expensive.

Re: Dml (# 3) Expand Referenced Message

I participated in the clinical trial using Xolair for the treatment of hives from 2005-2006 at John Hopkins under the supervision of Dr. Saini. I had chronic idiopathic urticaria for 2 years over 60% of my body. My allergist tried every drug possible to treat my condition. Even prednisone quit working. The clinical trial was a double blind clinical trial. Within 1 week of the first shot my symptoms went away. It is 2018 and I have not had a case of hives. In fact, the Xolair shot has enabled me to get off of most allergy/asthma meds that I had been on since age 5. I still occasionally have to take Zyrtec or Benadryl during high pollen seasons. I also learned from an integrative medicine doctor that my HPA axis had been compromised by years of steroid use. I had extremely low cortisol, but not low enough to be classified as Addison’s.

I have been on xolair for 16 months and after 8 months started having side effects. Xolair takes 3 initial injections (3 months) before it works. Side effects can happen up to over a year after starting it

I've had the hives that came out of nowhere about 8 months ago not sure if its coincidence but after my covid booster shot I spent 5 months on various antihistamines to no avail... I got my 1st Xolair shot in April...no change....after my 2nd shot, no change. I was so desperate and discouraged I asked my doctor for Prednisone which basically the combo of that with Xolair got rid of the hives for about 8 days. Then I took my 3rd shot and they came back. I'm so discouraged, though I feel that it might still take time... but to have them gone only to return with the 3rd shot is horrible.
