Xarelto And Weight Gain (Page 4) (Top voted first)
UpdatedI have been on 15mg of Xarelto along with 40mg of Crestor for approximatley 8 months and have suffered through a distended abdomen and burning and aching in my hips, legs and feet. After blood tests and scans ruled out anything sinister I chose to stop taking Crestor altogether. Within a week my abdomen was no longer distented and much of the pain in my hips and legs reduced to a point where I actually got some sleep. I have now started back doing my walking and concentrating on eating everything right but my weight inexplicably is going up and up. I have also noticed my tension type headache and tinnitus which I have had both for 11 years has intensified and difficult to ignore. I can only think the weight gain can be caused by Xarelto...there seems to be no other explanation and I have asked my doctor to put me back to Warfarin. The increase to my tension headache and tinnitus may have been caused by Crestor although it has not diminished since stopping that medication 3 weeks ago. Has anybody else noticed these side effects taking Xarelto?
Hello there, I'm still trying and I'm with slimming world now , weight loss is very slow but I've lost the 20 lbs gained while taking xarelto to. It's taken since March , I also have aches pains and tiredness. Lack of energy to build up exercise and I seem to be stuck .
Hi Dale. I took fish oil and vit.E. I wonder if that lead to the 20lb fluid retention and distended stomach?
I am on xarelto 15 mg twice a day. Can I still use apple cider vinegar daily?
Omg what could be the reason for not losing weight. I'm too worried with my weight doubling up
I agree with everything you said. I am on xarelto 20mg's a day for a-fib following OHS in 2013. I HATE IT. I have gained weight, I am exhausted, I am short of breath. I also took myself off Lisinipril due to the coughing. They have me on Simvistatin, Metoporal and a lospartan. I too have naturally low blood pressure. NOW Xarelto co-pay just went up.
I have been on a weight program and have lost about 69lb..started on Zerelto..im not gaining but seems no matter what i do dont any weight..have been at same weight for weeks and werks and struggle to maintain.
I have been on Xarelto for 3 months and have gained about 15 pounds. My hair has also taken a hit, it is very depressing. When I ask the questions about the side affects on one seem to have an answer.
Re: Dale (# 8)
I have been on Xarelto for about 6 years and I hate it. I changed GPs because it seems that most of them are not concerned about symptoms and actually blame my burning limbs at night from arthritis. I have had pins and needles for most of those 6 years and it has now deteriorated to the burning. The strange thing is, that I am fine when I'm awake but dreadful when I lie down. Having said that my GP is not concerned I have to tell you that he referred me to a specialist neurologist but on discovering that his fees were $800 for an hour consultation I chose not to go.I am an age pensioner so you will understand that call. I think he would probably just prescribe something else anyway. Also there would necessarily be a follow up consultation so where does it all stop with these guys? I have yet to face my current GP with that fact. My problem stems from my Protein C deficiency which causes blood clotting so I'm wary of going off it. The specialist who prescribed Xarelto has retired so I can't go back to see him. I was interested in all the comments about weight gain. I didn't connect my prob in that area until I read the posts here but we eat well (seriously) and walk regularly.I weigh 68kgs now at the age of 78 and have never been more than 60 kgs but mostly low 50 kgs in my childbearing years. It's a big concern to say the least. Another interesting point is the fact that we need to stop Xarelo if facing surgery...how is it then dangerous for us to go off it permanently. Thank you to all those who have posted here. It is extremely encoraging to know I'm not alone with these probs.

Hi Judith. What has happened since your post? Did the odor stop? I think your body was releasing toxins through your skin at a very rapid rate. That happened to me many years ago when I had started taking a lot of vitamins and a wild rose hip concentrated homebrew concoction. My lower arm and the back of my hand even smelled bad after a through scrubbing. I took epsom salt baths to help eliminate the odor. The good thing is after a few weeks the odor stopped and my facial skin had become "peaches and cream."
I have been on Xarelto for the past seven months for PE from birth control and I gained about 25 lbs. The third month I literally walked 8 miles a day and I still can't shake the weight. I have lost about 13 lbs since the first of the year but that is depressing given the anount cardio I put in. I gained have always been active/athletic so usually four months of cardio (some days I do 16 miles). I would be very toned. But the weight settle around my stomach which has never happened (I am 34). I have two more weeks and I am praying the side affects leave. I bought a suna suit to walk/jog in because I am so desperate.
Re: Mila (# 28)
I’ve been on Coumadin for years and apart from the blood test, no side effects at all. Most Drs hate the drug but it seems the new breed of anticoagulants are very suss.
Re: curtis (# 4)
I started it in December and my Pulmonary embolism is now gone. Now at the end of the month I gained 25lbs.So thankfully I am starting to take a 81 milgran of aspirin.
Re: Kendall (# 54)
Warfarin literally did the same thing for me that most are saying xarelto does. I think its blood thinners in general that make it easier to put on weight, and numbness, fatigue, all that.....I was the biggest I've ever been while on Warfarin.
I gained weight taking Xarelto. In the first three months I gained 19 pounds. I am 5'-8" and normally weighed 135 but gained to 154. My waist was normally 29 - 30" and increased to 43". It is still at 40" after having stopped xarelto 3 years ago and after having lost weight (down to 143.) I don't eat very much. My lifestyle and habits did not change - the only difference was having taken Xarelto.
Re: Dale (# 14)
I read your message on gaining weight with xarelto. Have you managed to lose it and how?
Thks Sante
