According to NIH.gov, XAP is an alternative to cocaine for topical anesthesia.

Source: ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/8214878

XAP stands for Xylocaine (lidocaine) + Adrenaline + Pontocaine (tetracaine)

Another common abbreviation for this combination drug is LAT, which stands for the active ingredients lidocaine, adrenaline and tetracaine.

I'm under the impression that XAP refers to the brand name while LAT refers to the generic version.

Clinical trials note that "LAT gel (tetracaine-adrenaline-lidocaine) worked as well as TAC (tetracaine-adrenaline-cocaine) gel for topical anesthesia in facial and scalp lacerations." - They also go on to state that LAT gel compared favorably with injectable buffered lidocaine for local anesthesia effectiveness and was significantly less painful to apply; thereby making it the preferred local anesthetic in many cases.

I hope this info helps!
