Withdrawls/side Effects
UpdatedI started Effexor XR 75mg in July of last year. I had insomnia for a month, and continuous dry mouth until I bought some a dry mouth oral rinse.
I was brought up to 150mg in December or January. I started sweating a lot at night. Changing my clothes 3 to 4 times a night. Insomnia lasted about a month.
During all of this time, I also experienced weight loss as it suppressed my cravings.
I have tried twice to cold turkey it, and both times it ended in disaster. Suicidal thoughts being the main one.
I went to the doctor, and I am now on 75mg daily. (i did get the wonderful brain zaps and mood swings for about a week) What my main concern is: when I upped the doses, certain side effects would calm down after a month. Night sweats and insomnia. They would still be there, just a lot less.
Now, I have insomnia more than ever. I wake up, pee, change, sometimes change my bed sheets if I don't have an extra blanket to put under me so I am not paying in a wet pile, I change as well.... I would say about 6-9 times a night. I sleep for about 12 hours... Seems like a lot, but usually I only get 5 of actual sleep, rarely getting a full cycle (rarely, if ever, in REM).
So, frequent urination, food cravings heightened (basically I never feel full), drenching night sweats, insomnia.
I've recently developed shortness of breath, more fatigue than previously (could be due to the less and less sleep i get), random itchy spells, hot flashes, low grade fever. I'm not sure I'd those have anything to do with effexor, but I thought is mention them.
As for my doctor, she left my practice and left me with no one. I've moved to nyc for school (i am 24)and its difficult to reach my insurance. I'm working on it, but it takes time.
I just want to know if these symptoms of withdrawl normally last this long.. the sweating is so bad that I am sleeping in a different bed than my boyfriend. I don't like waking him up to change and pee 6plus times a night, and I hate waking him up to change the sheets.

Hello Samanrha,
I'm so sorry to hear about everything you're going through, I sure hope the rough times pass soon for you.
I haven't personally had any experience with Effexor, but I have read about many others who have had to endure the withdrawal symptoms and it sounds quite horrible.
I'll link you to a thread where others on the site explain their situations with Effexor withdrawal, including how long the withdrawal lasted and the side effects. Maybe speaking with some people in that thread will give you some more insight.

I hope this helps!
