Wisconsin/minnesota/illinois Doctor Who Prescribes Adderall For Narcolepsy

I have had adult onset narcolepsy/EDS (excessive daytime sleepiness) for 2 years and have tried almost all anti-depressants to try to alleviate the problem. I recently completed a sleep study and they found no sleeping disorders, so everything points to narcolepsy. My psychiatrist has been extremely unhelpful so it's time to find a new doctor. I live in northern Wisconsin but am willing to travel anywhere in the midwest to get real help. Please help if you can, need an effective neurologist or psychiatrist.

Hello, Charley! How are you? I am very sorry about the problem that you're having.

If you need such a medication, then you'll need to see a doctor that is near you and you'll have to use a pharmacy that is also nearby. Since Adderall is a controlled substance that is often abused, plus pharmacies are limited on how much of it they can carry each month, they've been forced to require that doctors and patients all be located within a certain radius of them to fill such prescriptions.

This medication also carries the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, irritability, nervousness, insomnia, weight loss and anorexia.

Have you tried consulting a neurologist? They might be of more help and have a better idea of what medication could help you.
