Will Urine Test Be Ok If I'm Prescribed Methadone And Take Nothing Else?
UpdatedI take methadone prescribed by my doctor for pain and nerve damage after breaking my neck and being temporarily paralyzed ...I have to take a urine test for a new job.. Will it be a problem if I'm given it by my pain doctor?? When I take the test I will tell them I take it. Any feedback will help..

Except for certain jobs where someone's being under the influence of narcotics could put the lives of others in danger, such as an airline pilot, they cannot deny you the use of legally prescribed medications.
Thus, you just need to inform them that you are taking it, when you go in for the test, though they do have the right to verify it, with your doctor, if they so choose.

As long as you are prescribed METHADONE by your Doctor, you'll have nothing to worry about...
A standard SAMSHA 5 panel test (what 99.999% of pre-employment uses) will NOT show methadone as a positive.
Methadone is a synthetic opioid, it is NOT processed or metabolized by the body the same as a natural opiate is, therefore the test won't show positive for it.
Any test six panel or less will NOT be positive for methadone. A TEN panel test has a methadone specific gradient in there, and that WILL show positive.
Metabolites for the methadone will stay in your urine/bloodstream approx 36-48 hrs from time you take it. Half life is very long for methadone, due to its chemical structure.
REST ASSURED IF YOURE TAKING A FIVE PANEL TEST YOU'RE CLEAR FOR METHADONE.
Pretty much anything else like codeine, morphine, OxyContin, hydrocodone, etc WILL SHOW POSITIVE within 48 hrs of taking, depending on activity, metabolism, etc because those are NATURAL OPIUM DERIVATIVES. Your body produces a metabolite the test is looking for.
SIX PANEL OR LESS--CLEAR
TEN PANEL OR MORE--CAUGHT
If you have a script for the methadone, and it shows up on a test (so unlikely they'll do a ten panel but anyway) just give the lab your pharmacy info to verify. Boom, you're cool.
NOTE: IT IS ABSOLUTELY ILLEGAL FOR THE TESTING FACILITY TO SHARE ANY INFO WITH THE EMPLOYER EXCEPT PASS/FAIL. They cannot go into details. PASS/FAIL--That's all the info they can give, and **only after** verifying meds & scripts with pharmacy, clinic or Doctor! #HIPPACERTIFIED
I have an old script of methadone and I take one every time I needed will I be OK on the drug test 9 panel I did have a script for it I just say them for when I need them
I am prescribed and take a 10 mg methadone tablet once a day to help control chronic pain due to systemic lupus. I am trying to make a Career change into the the professional office world. I have spent months studying for, and passing a state exam to receive my paraprofessional credential. I recently accepted a job offer and went through a fingerprint check and a background check successfully with the human resource department. I knew I would also have to take a drug test, and had spoken with my doctor and researched sites like this online. I was prepared this morning to take my test, had my prescription copies, letter from my prescribing doctor and they pronounce from my pharmacy on hand to show the lab, as recommended on this and many other sites.
However, now I am terrified as I was informed by human resources when they gave me the paperwork to take to the lab, and also by the lab that I could not present any paperwork upfront, that my only option was if I tested positive for anything from the lab results would be sent directly to the employer, and that I would be contacted by their medical review Officer if there were any issues. I have been told that 10 MG once a day is actually a very low-dose and might not even be enough to register on the 10 panel urine test. I would be interested to know if anyone has had any experience or can verify this for me? I am nervous as to the stigma I'm now discovering that surrounds methadone. I wish I had been aware of it before. I used to be prescribed oxycodone, however since I am between jobs I had allowed my doctor to switch me to the methadone as it was much more cost-effective for me. I did quit taking it two days before my test as that was all the notice I had from the hiring office. But due to the amount of pain I am in having had lupus for over 20 years and very bad bones it is not something I will be able to stay off of. I'm not a drug abuser. Merely trying to make a positive career change. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!
