Will Tramadol Show Up On My Pain Management Drug Test If I Take Oxycodone? (Top voted first)
UpdatedI am in Virginia and I currently take 4 30mg oxycodones and 4 100mg morphines a day, I get drug tested every three months. I took some tramadol recently that I found but can't find my prescription for it. Will my doctor see that I took tramadol even though I already take Oxycodone and Morphine?
Ok... Let me first say that I'm not a doctor, lab tech or nurse.. I am however a pain management patient... I go to a very strict clinic... Like many of you have posted on here before I too had a rough month and took too much of my medication.. With that being said, I did take 3 tramadol that I got from a family member... I'm prescribed hydrocodone and oxycodone... The tramadol that I took were not mine...I took them on a Sunday the DAY before my sched appt... I was drug tested on MONDAY and I worried myself sick the whole month because I just knew when I went in for my next appt that my results would show the tramadol that I had taken... Well, I just left my docs office and I had passed my ua and nothing was said to me... Now, with all that said... I want to say this: I do not know how or why it wasn't in my test results... I am fairly certain that the ONLY reason it didn't show up is because the test wasn't looking for TRAMADOL... I see a lot of conflicting answers to this question on the internet... I am not saying any of this to help someone who is abusing drugs.. I just wanted to post on here MY situation... I know what I did was wrong and I have learned my lesson... It is just not worth the risk of loosing the good relationship I have with my doctor... I will never do this again because I worried myself sick over it. But anyway, I just wanted to post this just in case someone else has the same situation as myself... But in short: I took tramadol on a Sunday and the next day I had a ua and the tramadol was not detected... But like I said earlier in this post it prob went undetected just because the test I took didn't have tramadol on the list for drugs to detect... I hope this helps someone....
If it is a rapid screening test tramadol usually won't be tested for so it won't show up. Even if it is a GC/MS lab test it should not show up unless they're are actually testing for tramadol. If it is lab that deals with pain management they might test for it. But if you only get tested every three months the tramadol will be long gone from your system if you stop taking it. Hope this helps?
This does help, thanks. So rapid screenings don't test for tramadol and won't unless they specifically look for it? what is GC/MS? Apparently the pain management only tests for narcotics and scheduled substances, if in that case, tramadol wouldn't be tested for? In the state of Virginia, Tramadol for a schedule IV got rejected so that's good... How long does tramadol take to leave the system?
Correct, tramadol won't show up on a rapid screening test unless there is actual test strip for it on a rapid screening panel test. But all the test I deal with don't have tramadol on it. GC/MS is short for Gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (GC-MS). It is the "gold standard" for any lab drug testing. You can check Wikipedia for an explanation but it is very technical. I don't have any stats on how long tramadol can be detected but I would guess between 3-5 days in a urine drug test.
Okay sweet, so I guess I'm in the clear since none of your tests don't have tramadol on it. May I ask what state you are in, and are you a patient or a doc? since tramadol is not a scheduled drug, I should be good, I just thought it might be checked since tramadol has a "potential" for abuse. I just want to avoid it being detected on any level to ensure no questions from the doctor or anything that would jeopardize my pain management medication because I am not prescribed tramadol and would not have proof to show, in the case they do see I have traces of it and ask why I took it. Thanks for the speedy responses, much appreciated :)
I am in the state of Ohio. I am not a patient or a doctor. I am a third party administrator for hair drug testing and I supply drug testing supplies. No manufacturers of rapid screening tests I deal with have tramadol on a panel test mainly because there isn't much call to test for it. I am sure there are some labs that can test for it by the GC/MS method but it's not common.
I am taking my regular drug test for my pain management that I take every three months. Pain clinics test for tramadol, but i'm wondering about my pain management test for tramadol
In the past week my research shows 50% say no 50% say yes??? I am confused????
"The results provided the physician or health-care professional with information about drug abuse and could be used to improve patient care with patient-specific therapy."
ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/24071814
To facilitate the monitoring of drug abuse by patients, a method was developed and validated for fast and highly selective screening for amphetamine, methamphetamine, 3,4-methylenedioxymethamphetamine, methylenedioxyamphetamine, methylenedioxyethylamphetamine, methylphenidate, cocaine, benzoylecgonine, morphine, codeine, heroin, 6-monoacteylmorphine, methadone, 2-ethylidene-1,5-dimethyl-3,3-diphenylpyrrolidine, nicotine, and cotinine in PharmCheck sweat patches
Excellent, I hope for the best, I am sure it will be out of my system, I will let you guys know how it goes.
I've had 8 major spinal fusions and 22 .I or procedures. I'm prescribed 15th oxymoron and 75 Mcrgrm patchs. I recently had brainstem procedure that caused severe headaches. I had tramadol prescription 2 years ago from neurologist for headaches and took it 200 mgs. 36 hours before pain doc popped UA. will tramadol show on this test?
If it is a urine dip test like you buy at the store and do at home it most likely will not show up.
I can say for sure but it looks like Tramadol won't show up on a standard NIDA 5 panel drug screen.
Are you sure? This is my life your talking about.
If it is a test for Oxy and they GC/MS testing it is highly unlikely Tramadol will show up. GC/MS is the most accurate form of urine/hair drug testing.
Lortab (hydrocodone) would show up on a hair drug test if they were testing for the extended opiates. For urine if they are testing for hydrocodone Lortab would show up but I still don't think Tramadol will show up on a test when they are using GC/MS test. GC/MS is great at isolating molecules so that there are no false positives.
how many days back labs check for oxycodone in urine test.is prescribe to me by pain management clinic
On the Lab tests they can check for anything. They have 8 different things ways to check.. I get checked with the EA, EIA, GC/MS. An they can special order tests. for everything here in Indiana. Which mine does for Suboxone. Every doctor I've seen or heard of in this area does. They have put Suboxone on the strip tests now
I was wondering this also. I have a pain management and I take the detailed urine test every month, so will all 5races of tramadol be undetectable within 30 days
I am a 76 year old woman in relatively good health. I had my back fused in 2010 due to an attack of scoliosis that just happened with no prior symptoms. My rib cage was resting on my pelvic bone and my lung and heart were threatened with another part of the spine. There are no specialists in the city where I live, but Baylor University has a top notch spine center in Plano, TX. I had a very successful surgery there in 2010. However in 2015 we discovered one of the titanium rods was broken clear through-two pieces. Having corrective work done end of this month. My pain doctor and I are new to each other. Four months ago he started me hydrocodone 7.5, 4 times/day. 60 days ago he said the UA showed tramadol and no hydrocodone in my system. Today I was told that the UA 30 days ago was the same result. I can't figure it out. To my mind, I see no way this could happen except by the pharmacy mixing them up. I went there and they said not possible because the Ultram they carry is in tablet form.
I had gotten the idea of a switch because one form of Ultram looks just like the hydrocodone pill I take (kind of oblong, white and scored as well). But we would have noticed the difference right away. So that killed my idea of a switch.
My fairly new pain doc is about to fire ME. He has no reason not to do so, since we have no history to speak of. He has no time invested in me, no bond. I can live without the hydrocodone, but its the trust I need. Compliance is so important for building that trust. He has no reason to believe me and I don't see him helping me figure it out. My state leads the nation in prescription drug overdose deaths so doctors are pulled in both directions wanting to help me but having to lookout for themselves.
It is not logical for me to take tramadol, knowing I am having a UA and that it show up. I take Venlafaxine, Tramazone, generic Previcid for GERD, a multi-vitimin plus extra Vitamin D. I wear a Fentanyl patch #50 for undiagnosed pain and have for 15 years. He renewed that to my gratitude. But he didn't even come in to see me today. Sent the PA instead. Disheartening, indeed.
I have been around medicine all my life. My dad started to med school late. I was five. Mother and I went all the way through. She used to outline textbooks for him. He taught himself to write with both hands so he could take lecture notes without getting so tired. His father was the administrator for one of the bigger hospitals here, so medicine was a big part of our lives in many ways. Dad's classmates were friends and 'many stayed here in town to practice., so there was a lot of professional courtesy going on. Medicine was different back then. No one would have thought of not helping me find the glitch. First of all they would have been fascinated in how the 'impossible could happen. They would have discussed it and done research and would even get advice from other doctors who weren't even involved. Hard to let that atmosphere go. I feel very alone and wonder if you have any ideas?
