Will My Dr / Pharmacist Fill My Refill After My Bmi Drops
UpdatedHi -
My Dr prescribed Belviq after several years of healthy eating and exercise with nothing but a slow weight gain. Took all the necessary blood work / tests to rule out anything else. It's working so far but now I've dropped enough weight after one month that I'm just below the 30 BMI now. I go back to see my DR in a week for a weight in and to get a refill but am worried that either my DR or my Pharmacist won't fill it now that I'm below 30. I've read everything possible and don't see this answer out there, and all I see is the statement that Dr can prescribe if a patients INITIAL BMI is above 30, does that mean they can continue to refill / write additional RX after I'm below since I started above? I really haven't lost that much weight and am no where near my goal weight and am fearful that if I'm taken back off this before really giving it a chance, will just gain the pounds I lost right back. Does anyone know or have experience? I'll be disappointed if my DR suggested this and I can't really take it long enough to make a meaningful impact.

Hello, Al! How are you?
The pharmacist doesn't really have a say in it, unless it would be prescribed to a very tiny person that is already underweight. The decision actually lies with your doctor.
You should be able to continue it, if you're still overweight. Alternatively, they may also switch you to a different medication, there's no way to speak for them.
The FDA lists the typical side effects of this medication as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, nervousness, insomnia and anorexia.
Has anyone else that's taken it been in this situation?
Thank you... I've since seen my dr and she's continuing me on it and the pharmacy filled it so no more worries. I was initially asking the question b/c the pharmacy originally denied my initial RX b/c they had my BMI at 29.7 instead of the 30. They said regardless of the DR, they could not fill it unless I was a 30. Good news was my DR had my wrong height so that solved the problem there...
