Will A Uti Being Treated With Sulfameth/tmp Ds Tab Cause My Lap Band Surgery A Week From Now To Be Postponed. I Have No Symptoms Or Fever

Having lap-band surgery in 1 week and in my pre-surgery test they determined I have a mild UTI infection today and gave me sulfameth/tmp ds tab. I have no symptoms or fever. Will this cause the surgeon to postpone my surgery?

Is your surgeon aware that you are taking this medication when you filled out the initial paper work to have the procedure done?

Usually, antibiotics like this one are only prescribed for up to 7 days or so to kill an infection, so it may end up that you finish taking the medication before your surgery date. It should be a priority though in my honest opinion, to inform the surgeon about it anyways just to be on the safe side. Reason being is that each and every surgeon and procedure they do has its own merits and pre or post op instructions, so there really is no definitive answer guide outside that of your surgeon's response to you.

In any other situation, a general answer could be acceptable, but this is more "patient specific" and personalized information based on your surgeon's discretion and not necessarily something you can research.

I hope this all makes sense!
