This Crackdown on Narcotics a few years ago was supposedly started in order to "Save Lives"!? It's actually Backfiring! It's going to increasingly Kill Good Americans in Debilitating Chronic Pain! When Doctors all over say "NO" to those with Unbearable Pain....they are committing Suicide, vegetating in Bed, or turning to the streets where every dose is unpredictable. It can be weak one time, and BOOM,.. Twice as Strong the Next! So you eventually Die. Many in REAL Debilitating Chronic Pain cannot get Proper Medication & Treatment because of the RIDICULOUS, INHUMANE Strictness of Narcotics because People who Do NOT even Know what REAL PAIN IS have abused them for years! Now the Government wants to treat All of us like Children...and say," Well, Kids, Somebody broke the Vase. Since I don't know which of you did it, I'll just PUNISH ALL OF YOU!" How stupid! We are ALL ADULTS here. And we're NOT talking about Broken Vases! We're talking about BROKEN LIVES! People in Real Chronic Pain just want to be able to get out of bed in the mornings, Dress, maybe do something a little productive, Cook a meal, etc. Just THESE THINGS are SO DIFFICULT even when you are a young Person in your 30's or 40's, if you have Untreated Chronic Pain.

I am fortunate. I finally had Back surgery and only need low Meds. But the Medications do not have enough strength for me to do more than Shower, eat, dress, barely Shop for half hour, then Rush home back to Bed. Even after a 3 level successful Fusion, I still have Pain ALL OVER!! My bones aged faster than the rest of my Body it seems. My Back felt 90 when I was only 40!. I was never afraid to go thru the Changes we all do from Cradle to Grave. But NOW,..I must dread the Aspect of Aging...because Citizens in America are being forced to AGE IN PAIN... INSTEAD Of GRACEFULLY...as we once did....very sad.

Robert, you are most likely being given the new oxycontin (reformulation) read back through these posts and you will find lots of conversation about it, including the lack of pain relief as the drug is not dissolving properly due to the 'glue type' formula they are using. I guess you are in the USA. Here in Australia we are very lucky to now have the generic formula which is a replica of the original oxycontin, without the awful coating on it. From reading, we have gathered it is almost impossible in the USA to get the original formula. If you are in Oz, then ask your doctor NOT to put a 'tick' in the box on your script that says 'brand substitution not permitted' then ask your phamacist for 'Sandoz brand generic Oxycontin'. You should not be denied this if the box is not ticked. Talk to you doctor about the generic, some doctors don't even know it exists! Tell him your pain meds no longer work like they did and tell him about the Sandoz generic. If you are in Oz, you can get it no problems and your pain will be relieved once again and you will feel better. If you are in America, my heart goes out to you all. We were in this position for six months but then the generic came out, I believe it came out in the US also but the company that manufactures the reformulation, managed to stop it being available. Disgusting behaviour, not caring about people in pain, only money. If you have RA (being Rheumatoid Arthritis) have you tried going onto 'Methotrixate' yet? My mother was on it and it helped her pain tremendously. It is actually a chemotherapy drug so it you go on to it, you cannot have alcohol at all. My mum stopped drinking so she could have pain relief (and she liked a drink, daily...) so speak to your pain specialist or hospital about it.
All my best wishes to you.

Posters,

Addiction is a separate disease, whoever said pain clients are physically addicts or chemically is WRONG. The word we use in healthcare is tolerant. The word addict used for a legitimate pain patient is malpractice.

Kashmir, the hair deal is highly BS does not happen, the pain with RSD is the worst. You need a physician who will treat your pain.

Dear P450

I guess since shattering my tib n fib in both legs. I have been trying any kind of idea or therapy to get back to who I was. I realize now I was too eager to believe u and the whole CRPS thing, which I do not have at all!

As for the hair on my legs that pretty much has stopped growing with the exception of a few amusing tuffs. There has been much trauma to my legs that I believe, my poor legs have no strength to grow hair. I would believe most people on this site would accept hair growth was greatly reduced in areas that have been subjected to great trauma but u as a nurse have very nicely I must add, described it as BS! Thank u for that.

I don't know why the skin on my feet has darkened nor got all shiny n why I am losing elasticity. I'm losing surface feeling n that tingling feeling is spreading. The throbbing pain, the dull ache. The cold that won't leave, its not fun watching your toe nails go blue. The jabs that feel like a hot poker. The leg spasms that I have no control over and always scare me because I am sacred of falling down, which happened again yesterday. This time leaving me with a bruised cheek (I somehow hit myself in the face) and now two very blooded knees that look all jacked up n all kinds of nasty.

Thank you Jay. As per usual your post is always helpful. I had a little read but need to do more. I will ask what my physiotherapist thinks.

Fanovanagan, i hope your correct that they are going to bring the old formula of Oxycontin back in the US, so many people are suffering from the terrible side effects & inadaquate pain relief. They brought the OP form into Australia & many of us went through months of hell, thankfully another company released a generic of the old formula so we have a choice. Good luck with it.

Yes im 100% right on this. Ive been on this medication for a long time due to a rare painful disease that has no other treatments available. Im allergic to many medications & this has been the one med thats worked without to many side effects, but the new formula made me really sick & didnt control my pain as well. It was a relief to be able to get the old formula & have been back on it simce release.

When they first turned Opana plastic which I did not realize until I got massive heart burn feeling.. when I went in to ask if anything changed they initially lied to me and told me it was my age 38! Upon my own research I did see Opana went plastic.. I don't misuse it. So I only noticed change but used to getting change in shape of meds. That is when I found out they had made oxymorphone a lot cheaper too after a month to clear out plastic, all heart burn gone. By the way they just came out that antacid medicines cause cancer or something. I just saw it on the news 2 weeks ago.. isn't that nice...

Inpain4life, I couldn't agree more! It's been 27 years for me after a horrible epidural abscess. Now that I'm in my later 50's it's really getting worse as I get older. I'm lucky too that I have a good doctor but unfortunately he or no other doctor has control over all these inferior narcotic analgesics being made today. We're paying even more for drugs that barley work and the Liberals act as though they've done us all a favor. This is the biggest most overreaching government in the history of this country. Everything they do is based upon one lie after another and if you don't buy into their lies you're either a racist or right wing nut. My wife and I are seriously considering moving to Australia or another country where I can actually receive adequate pain relief because the people running this country are literally out of touch with reality.

Hi Bobby, i believe this is only in Vic while they see if it makes a difference to overdoses. I dont believe it will, junkies are going to get their fix regardless of what drug it is. I also find it hard to believe more people died from popping pills than injecting illicit drugs! Anyway, i wouldn't stress.....it's the head of department of health doing this in Vic, i think there's something personal going on. I'm being looked after by my doctor & pharmacy, the op makes me so sick.

Hi Carol, im really sad to read your post......you've had a terrible time of it. I was only 30 when diagnosed with the disease i have, so i understand what its like for your life to be great one minute & the next minute its fallen apart & your facing pain & other medical issues you never think will happen to someone your age. Its unfair & most of your friends dont understand. It breaks my heart that your thinking of ending your life because you aren't getting adequate pain control! What the hell are your doctors thinking......do you have someone to act as an advocate for you, someone who can get the message across thst you need help now? If not, try & get a family member or someone who cares about you to do so.....someone who's strong. Ive had instances that ive been to sick & my daughter acts as my advocate, making sure im taken care of but also that they listen to what i want & need. I really hope that things change, & they get your pain sorted so you can have more time to enjoy.....i do know how your feeling though & truly understand....when all you have are days filled with pain, theres no way to push through & see the good stuff. Thinking of you & i really wish you the best.

I was on the OC formula for 20 years & it improved my quality of life ten fold. Then came the OP formula & I noticed the difference immediately before I even noticed that the pill itself had changed. I was calling in sick to work because of much increased pain and GI side effects. Then for 2 months I had the OC formula back because the pharmacy still had some in stock. My quality of life improved again instantly! No pain & no GI side effects. And then came the OP formula again...once...for all...and forever. And my quality of life took a serious nose dive...once...for all...and forever. And to top it off...my GP recently decided that 80mg of OP per day was way too much and cut it back to 60mg. He told me that it is going to be a new law coming soon so I might as well start now. I do not know if this is true or not but what I do know is...I am suffering and no one cares!

Sandie, You are full of it. The only reason OP from mundipharma are not working for you and you claim to be throwing up is because you take the Sandoz ones which are generic and you suck the coating off them and then chew them up so you get immediate release of 80mg. The OP from mudipharma can not be done like this and must be taken properly meaning you get 40mg instant and then 40mg over 9-12 hours. If you were not abusing your pain meds and were actually taking them correctly then OP would work for you. The problem and the reason why OP is in australia is because the patent was coming to an end for australia with mundipharma and the generics were coming out and mundipharma said to australian government that they would change their formula so that they can ban all generics and mundipharma would retain the monopoly in australia. The government did not do that after mundipharma changed to OP because they cant but what they did do was PBS offered chemists alot more money back for each pack they sell of the OP from mundipharma. meaning you pay $6 or $39 to your chemist and the PBD pays the chemist an extra $70 per packet that they sell of mundipharma but if they sell the generic or sandoz generic then they only get $30 per packet. So the chemists do not stock any other brand or sell any other brand than mundipharma so that way they get the higher prices and the government are happy because there is no tablets than can be tampered and doctors are happy, the only person who isn't happy is the person who breaks them up. Now there are some chemists that sell sandoz generic mainly chemist warehouse and night and day and the mega savings chemist, but they are crap versus the munidpharma OP ones if you compare by taking both properly.

Now mundipharma knew everyone was complaining because it turns out more people on oxycontin are abusing than they thought which means more complaints and most people dont know about sandoz or where to get them, but now mundipharma has made a new one called ONs that release much better but are still tamper proof, though you can always bite them into 4's if you have to. I am on 160mg 3 times a day plus up to 4 20mg oxynorm a day plus 1 200mg palexia twice a day. Palexia is something that doctors love giving out because it keep your dose moderated. Also if your doctor is giving you targin and you are on a higher dose than 40mg then you are being done by a dumb doctor. They give you targin because of the naloxone which is what ambos carry with them to get you out of instant overdose. Every oxy addict should have a syringe of naloxone. You can not take more than 40mg of naoxone, so if you are on 60mg oxy and taking a 40mg and a 20mg targin then you need to tell your doctor to speak to their rep as that is the wrong thing to be taking due to the overdose of the naloxone every day, twice a day.

Those in america who want to know what australia has, we have mundipharma with OP but now they have newer smaller packets which are OC and are better. You can see they are better than OP just by looking at them, they are darker and less wax. We then have sandoz which are old formula regarded as OC but they are shyt compared to OC mundipharma. We then have 100mg and 200mg of palexia. Which is an add-on to your oxy. Now mundipharma is OC.

Those who break their meds are doing themselves a bad thing as it puts their dose up super fast and they screwed it already for the rest of us. Those who are on oxy and are not on higher enough dose you need to google the best pain specialists in your city and go see them. They will write a letter so your doctor can get you authority for a full months worth every month on a single script, so for me its 6 packs of 80s a month for $6. You only have to see that specialist once every three months and they only cost $180 and medicare give half back so who cares if you have to go to the next major city to get the review every 3 to 6 months. Your pain specialist has authority to give you what you need and they are pain specialists because they believe in pain meds and they will give you what you need. Then your GP can phone up each month and get your authority.
Seriously those on this stuff for pain need to seriously find something else to take with it. Gabapentin in small doses is really good like 50mg instead of 300mg. This stuff you wont notice anything at all and then a couple of months later if you took it every day you will suddenly feel a lot better and your dose will stop going up. it is how the chemicals work with your CNS. The stuff makes you feel normal. oxy makes you feel normal but after a while you come down from it after a major sleep and you realize you were high, so gabapentin makes you feel normal like you use to. the oxy takes care fo the pain meds and the other stuff takes care of your attitude and your view on life and your ability to get through the day. Instead of being in bed till 10am you are up at 7am wanting stuff to do.

Those of you who feel major pain when the oxy wears off, this is pretty much pain that is from withdrawals. It will always magnify your pain and gabapentin with oxcy will take care of nerve pain so when you withdraw a bit the pain will be half what it usually is when your tablet stops working because the gab takes care of nerve pain and signals meaning you wont quickly have 2 tablets. Many people have one tablet and then half hour later take another and all the sudden they are up higher doses. You need to wait three hours for the tablet to peak. So set alarm clock and halve table a few hours before you wake up so you wake up feeling better. Rather than in pain like a train hit you and you needing to take extra tablets because your pain is worse. You still need to wait 3 hours.

Anyway you guys that are addicts, you know who you are. Start helping yourself by giving them more time and taking something like gabapentin to help. Obviously i take alot of oxy and i am too addicted but i take it for pain and i take it right but if i take it wrong for a few months then i also am able to get my dose back down by stopping and giving it time to work and taking the gaba. The gaba is amazing. You wont know about it because it doesnt do anything until one day it does. If you take too much you will feel speedy but if you take too litle you will feel speedy but if you take just right you will be so happy. This stuff kills people. I have seen so many people wake up to their partner being next tot hem dead all because they took a single extra tablet. I cant take 10 80s a day if i needed to but one day I will think i can do that and i cant and die. Be careful.

The reason I called Sandie out for being an addict is because i have known her most of her life and she is an addict. All the time moaning about their meds, always a problem. Back in the OC days was moaning about it not being enough. Always something with Sandie. You see Sandie's friends hate hearing her always complaining. I have known Sandie many many years and the thing is Sandie doesn't know I take Oxy too. Because it is not the only thing i ever talk about. Stop taking all your meds at once and breaking them up and running out and you wont always be in pain. if you double up without giving it three hours and then you are going to be in more pain the next day because it wears off. You may not even know you are feeling high but you could be. If you aren't sleeping then you are certainly high. If you are drowsy you are overdosing the stuff. Give it three hours and take your dose and see if it works in three hours. Rather than waiting an hour and taking more.

Yes my spelling is terrible but that's cause im writing 100 words a minute cause i had a lot to say and i wanted to say something after spending another saturday listening to Sandie and her household. BTW, The best GP for this stuff is Dr as he has a thing with the pain clinic who gets kickbacks sending patients there and they both look after their patients so they both keep making money. Phone your local pain clinic up and ask them if you can come and see them and that you do not want to be flagged for doctor shopping so can they tell you a GP who is understandable to pain. In melbourne where I am from it is cake. As it was when i was in perth. You need oxy then you need to go to a GP who believes in pain clinics and providing opiates and the only way to find them is by asking the person that is the person who gets lots of referrals from a GP. They know who is more open to opiates than you and your mates.

I know this is an old post I'm responding to, but I also noticed many differences in the new OxyContin. There is a difference and many people have been made. One day I started feeling sick. I thought I was getting a flu bug that had been going around. I had this weird stomach ache head ache and was sweaty. My back and legs were hurting too. I just thought this will go away in a few days and to take it easy. Well on the 6th night I was SO SICK. afraid sick. I'd not ever felt this before. Also about 9 that night I threw up... again. Only this time I noticed my pain pill in the toilet. It had kind of this strange gelatinous look. Like my stomachs wasn't breaking it down. Again I thought this was because of the flu bug. Finally after 10 days I was sooo ill. I went and saw my doctor. I told him everything I just said here. He said, "well your probably going through with drawls from your medicine". HUH? WHAT?? WHY? I'm taking them. Turns out there are a lot of people that have been made very sick from this new formula. My dr explained they put something in it to make abuse proof. Well I didn't know that. They had looked the same to me. But the. I didn't really LOOK at them. Why would I? After my doctor explained what wax going on, he started me a new medication and said he'd had to change several prescription THAT WEEK! When I got home I took out my new bottle. I had some left of my old and compared them. Same color and size but different markings. My new said OP the old said OC on them. The more I'm reading the more I don't understand how they can approve something that's affecting so many people. Some people don't have enough digestive enzymes to break them down. That's what was making me sweat and feel sick. I wasn't absorbing it. I wouldn't have known had I not thrown up. Yuck. Sorry. Lol. But there's something else going on. My pharmacist said they use a polymer plasticizer in it to make them abuse proof. This ingredient does make some people very sick. Maybe your "friend" is abusing them and that is why they don't work for her. But myself and many others have not. This new formula op really does make a lot of us really sick. Just my 2 cents worth. Take care all.

Now that I've had the time to read your cut and paste message Kimber and bothered to think about who you are, I think you should apoligies to the people who read these posts..
You have never been on pain medIcation or in pain...how dare you write these comments telling people just wait three hours till they work etc...its obvious you've never been in pain...You've belittled people that struggle to get out of bed in the morning because they hurt so much....
You don't know me anymore but funny enough you still sound like the 12 year old little trouble making thing that I knew and am so glad that is out of my life...you haven't grown up one single bit...
Your Dad would be so embarrassed by your behaviour. ..
Bye Emma...

At this time, Purdue has no plans to return to the original formula. They released this new one, with the specific intention of helping to prevent abuse of the product and discontinued making the original, when they did so.

They claim, however, that it works the same and causes the same side effects: nausea, drowsiness, dizziness and constipation.

I too am a patient who uses the medication only as directed and notice that the new formulation is not as effective. I hope they will go back to the original formula, because it is the only medication that works for me.

I noticed it does take longer for the op to work, maybe 30-45 minutes longer, and the pain relief has decreased, but I still get some relief. (It's like a lower dose.) My question is, if I was to go up to a higher dose (not sure of the dose amounts, I'm on 3 40's a day now), could that help make it work more like the oc's?
