Will Oxycontin Be Changed Back To Original Formula (Page 22) (Top voted first)
Updatedis Oxycontin going back to their old formula? OC instead of OP.
Enjoy Life please, thats not true. I am a completely legitimate patient with highly reputable GP (who specialises in addiction & has helped thousands of addicts beat their disease) & a top pain specialist, both who would never prescribe this medication to drug seekers. I hate being on this medication, & went through years of hell trying everything before having to give in & go onto it. It is true I found a pain clinic that had done a study about the new & old formula, they found the patients on higher dosage were affected with headaches, increased pain & new pain in stomach. Please don't lump everyone into the same group, its very offensive, I have not & never will abuse these medications in any way. The silicone doesn't always metabolise properly & is often found in stools, the delivery of the drug relys on the whole tablet dissolving in the patients system, so how can the whole dose be given. If you read through this all, im sure some people are addicts, its pretty obvious but many are genuine & some are carers of sick elderly who are having problems with new formula, not addicts seeking a fix. I hope you reevaluate your opinion about this, & see not all people are addicts.
It's therapeutic
Hey Michelle and other posters. I was e-mailed by my pharmaceutical media contact a few weeks ago. They gave me some great news! Sandoz Oxycodone will officially be listed on PBS as of 1/12/2014.
I personally have been paying $350 a month. However it has been worth every cent. Not only am I getting the full effects and time duration of the Sandoz brand, I have been able to cut my dose down also. My dose had gone up a bit with the OP's, trying to find the right amount.
Anyway good news for everyone's back pocket. Take care.
HI IM David and prescribed our NEW PLACEBO :::: Well hallalloolla to u my friend i thought i was the only person on this planet that kept sugar companies extremely happy ::: UNLIKE US WHO SUFFER CHRONIC PAIN SUGAR JUST DOES NOT WORK. Good luck n take care.
I hadn't read this topic in a while. Just posted when I had news. Was bored today and yeah... what can ya do I guess. I won't justify myself to no-one on my use and why etc.
When they changed to the OP's I had just had my Thyroid removed due to cancer. I was having trouble adapting to thyroxine and getting my levels correct. It went on or 6 months before I got the right dose and it stopped going under active. I was going through that when they changed to OP's. Was 3 of the worst months of my life. I have my own Business and the destruction in most aspects of my life from this period are still felt today.
My Thyroid is Tip top now and well the generics do their job so its great. However I am still recovering from that period. I am hoping tomorrow is the end of some troubles and not the beginning and from there things can only get better.
Hey John D, i know what u mean but i cant just sit back & say nothing when im being degraded for doing nothing but being sick. I have a business also, since i first became ill i watched it fall apart in front of my eyes. I spent years chasing non existant cures & trying to get pain under control. At that stage i was having pethadine inj's. 3-4 times a day which was hopeless, its too short acting & i hate needles. I had bruises on bruises where they inj. my back side & legs. When i was put on oxycontin it was much steadier but took a lobg time to get the dose to where i needed, me fighting it the whole way. My business sat dormant for a long time & i just started in the last yesr to re build. The new formuka dragged me down again, but know i can push forward with my pain mire stable. I really wish you the best John D, with your health & your business. Its not fun having these disease ravage our bodies, but stay tough mate & positive, it makes a difference.
Hey Michelle,
Thank you for your kind words. In no way was my post directed at you. Quite the opposite. So many other close minded posts. It is those people that make me not tell anyone what medication I take for my ailment's.
I had a business owner one day find out that I had to take oxycontin. He came to my business and asked to use the toilet out back. I didn't realize I had discarded of my empty 5mg box in the back bin. He went through it than came to me and brought it up. I challenged him to take a 5mg slow release tablet and feel high off it as he was accusing me of. The guy had a serious coke habit like a lot of people in the car industry. But was harassing me of this. I thought my point was made, however found out later he had been discussing it with other business's and it made a negative impact on mine.
What can you do. I just forever from that day will not allow anyone to know what medications I take. It is really horrible how close minded people can be.
Hey John D, that really sux! Why would someone go through a bin & pick up someones discarded medication box? I don't get why others, feel they have a right to judge people, who are sick & in a lot of pain. We are trying to get through each day & make the best of what life we have left. To get to the point, where you have the amount of pain that can only be reduced with these types of medications, is not a place to be envied! Id give pretty much anything to have what time i have left pain free. I work as much as i can, building my business that was pretty much destroyed when i was my sickest. It would be wonderful to travel & do the things i always wanted, but the reality is different. When this happens, you spend huge amounts of money trying to find treatments/cures. Your family often falls apart, as does your business when you cant run it & any savings dwindle quickly. If your fortunate to have years of life still ahead, but no real income, you end up on benefits. You struggle to keep a roof over your head, food in your stomach & to pay for medications that are giving you some quality of life. This is the reality of those needing these meds, not some druggi, getting high & lazing around having a good time. There will always be hateful people like your work colleague John, i know its hurtful to your heart & to your business, but try not to let it ruin what time you have or to stop you from fighting to beat your disease. Good luck.
Question for you all..have any of you noticed an increase in profuse sweating with the Sandoz Oxycontin? I have always sweat a lot with Oxycontin but it now seems to be worse than ever. Just interested in others experiences to find out if this problem is 'just me'? That being said, I would never to back to the horrific 'reformulation' that made me itch so much that I had to take antihistamines every single day as well as getting stomach pains and headaches...what a nightmare it was. Thank goodness that is finally over. I will take the sweating any day, however my skin is so sore from being wet all the time and it is really making me so very miserable of top of everything else. How much do you guys sweat? I am considering trying to decrease my dosage to see if it helps. Any imput would be helpful. Thanks guys and do try to enjoy the holiday season and especially to Michelle, I send my very best wishes.
No! Not a chance!
Yes, I don't know what causes that, I guess it's your body trying to get rid of the impurities that goes in your body
Hate it too! Wish they can improve the side effects !! From sweating to chills!
Hi Jay, I do get sweating to not all the time but when im doing a lot & my pain levels up. Ive found over the years ive put weight on, partly due to not working out & riding 10 horses trackwork a day, but also these meds have taken a toll. I get a lot of fluid esp in my legs around an old injury where a horse fell on me. It is horrible i agree, & i think Ben is right that its our bodies flushing out the toxins. A quick question who still drives? I have permission from my docs to drive, but i wonder what would happen if i was given a drug panel. Is it being under the influence of illegal drugs, or can it apply to anyone in medication that can cause drowsiness? I dont get any drowsiness, & bar the side effects & reduced pain, i wouldn't know i take Oxycontin. Lol, the people who say we're druggies dont get it, Ive never been high from it, wish i knew what all the fuss is about. Thanx for your kind thoughts Jay, Merry Xmas to you & have an awesome New Years!! The way you see in the New Year makes for the year ahead, so have a good one peoples. Much love ??
Hi jay if you got pulled over and they did a roadside drug panel you will not come back positive for any drugs as the diagnostic only picks up marijuana, amphetamine, and molly. that is all. psuedoepedrine also will set it off! But it will not pick up any opiates or anything as I stated. it only picks up the aforementioned drugs. that's is all
Thank you Michelle for replying. Yes, same for me, doing too much and being in pain brings on the most profuse sweats but I had an idea. I have some blood pressure medication which I don't have to take but I am going to try it again and see if it helps the sweating because it could be my heart is under stress and if I can reduce the pressure the sweats might decrease also. I have found valium decreases it also. I too have gained a lot of weight and I think this does contribute to the sweats along with the high dosage. People tell me I have a lovely complexion, little do they know it's the constant sweating - I have the most clean face! Thanks for the best wishes and don't let the haters get you down, they are just ignorant Michelle, I find that if I can have compassion for their ignorance, it is easier for me to deal with. They really have no idea Michelle...We know the truth about ourselves! We are brave and positive people. Cheers for us all!
Jay I sweat a lot more. I need a lot more deodorant each day and to make sure when I shower to use those spongy things to wash away all the sweat. Though in saying that I feel my body temp is out of wack from the meds all together. If its cold I am colder. If it is hot I am hotter. Not much fun.
As for the road side question. I can't see where the question was asked just seen an answer. I got pulled over by the police and as most in qld Australia know is the limit is .05. I got pulled over and charged for .053. I thought there was no way I could be at that level and asked if my medication had maybe increased the reading. I told them I took Oxycontin. The police officer opened his drug book and it wasn't listed for them. He didn't know nothing about the med let alone check people for driving under the influence.
Thanx Jay ok, i think it must be the toxins & pain combined. I have really low blood pressure so that wont be a factor for me i dont think, although even still low it does go up from my normal reading when im in a lot of pain. My high reading is a normal reading for most people. Thats interesting John D about the driving under influence, where in Q'land would cops not know what oxycontin is!? I find that to be incredible when its meant to be the most abused medication. When i first started on these meds i was still married, it jad been on the rocks for years though. My ex was very possesive & friggin nasty, but i just wanted my daughter to finish high school before i ended it. When i did he went on a rampage trying to destroy my life, including going to Vic Roads & trying to have them take my license. It didnt work, my doctors & pain specialist all wrote letters explaining that I dont feel the high & drowsiness that abusers of this drug get. The only thing it does is help settle my pain a bit. I have just wondered what would happen though if i was given a drug panel? Getting back to some previous posts about the PBS, i have to apologize. I spoke with my pharmacist the other day about it & she was putting my scripts through as the other formula on computer so it wouldn't cost me a fortune. I am very thankful to her, she has been my chemist for years & knows all my problems. I wouldn't want her to get into any trouble but felt i should let you know. Anyway its all on PBS now so doesnt matter. This is one reason its good to have a regular pharmacy, & also a good GP & pain specialist. When there are problems with these meds, you need people that know your not faking, abusing or over medicating these drugs. For your peace of mind & slso to make sure your getting the best care, its good to have these things in place. Take care people, & have an awesome Christmas.
Hi Michelle, yes my pharmacist did the same for me with my first script or it would have cost me a bomb, that's what I was referring to way back in a post..saying with the 'number' they put in the computer etc...anyway it's great to have a caring pharmacist who understands us isn't it. So sorry to hear about your tragic past with you ex, you must be much happier now. It's amazing what lengths we will go to for our children's well being!
I know that the medication does not affect my driving, after fifteen years on it I am just my normal self. I do have to fill in a form every year though, motor vechicles just brought this in here in South Australia. I do carry a little note in my wallet just in case I am in an accident, saying what I take and how often because if I could not communicate I would go into withdrawal within a certain time. It's a good idea I think to do this.
Well, time to finish wrapping presents. Very sincere best wishes Michelle. Lets hope the New Year brings us all the best life can offer :-)
Hey Jay, yeah that does sound like a good idea (note in wallet), I do have the health app on my phone with all my info, meds, allergies, conditions etc. but its always smart to have a back up. That crap with my ex was years ago, so doesnt matter in the great scheme of things, just interested about driving. That is probably a good thing having a record with road authority of medications like that. I hope everyone has an amazing Christmas with their loved ones. Treasure each day they are truly precious, when things happen that threaten our wonderful way of life in Australia (as yesterday in Sydney), it reminds us what a lucky country this is & how fortunate we are. Love to all, stay safe & dont drive when drinking or affected by medications. Cheers
It sounds as if you are referring to the reformulated Oxycodone with the 'sticky cover'. The newer Sandoz generic is already on the market, many are using it and it is the same as the original minus the sticky coating, so you are wrong. Also, the cover you mention is made of 'polyethylene oxide' and so many became really ill with stomach cramps, headaches, itching and other allergic reactions. If you have not experienced these, you are one of the lucky ones indeed.
Polyethylene oxide has side effects include bloating, cramping, gas and nausea. If you're allergic, you may develop hives or itching. Serious adverse effects include excessive diarrhea, severe weakness and marked dehydration. An overdose of polyethylene glycol can cause diarrhea, thirst, confusion and seizures. What a great relief not to have this additional suffering, on top of dealing with chronic pain now that the Sandoz generic brand is readily available and on the PBS.
I needed to post this in response to your post so that new readers do not get disheartened by incorrect information and think they are stuck with the horrible 'reformulation' side effects. Those with long term chronic pain are lucky to have a compassionate system that has allowed the consumer/customer to have a choice, to have the right to an effective pain medication with the least amount of side effects possible.
Please consider the effect your post may have on a person not familiar with the product. To say 'There will never be a generic version of the old OxyContin' is inaccurate being as many are already taking it and it is as effective as the original medication. Now more and more generics are becoming available and one company no longer has a monopoly on this drug. People need 'good news' especially at this time of year that some find difficult. I hope this clarifies for those who need to hear it. Cheers!
Thanks and I hope you are right. My statement is based on the 2013 Ban put on the generic OC by the FDA. I wasn't aware the ban had been lifted.
I read about the ban and heard about it on the news. It sickens me to find out what the cover of the new OC is made of and the side effects.
Thanks for the education, I do appreciate it very much. My intent wasn't to scare anyone.
