Will Neurontin Give False Positive On Drug Testing (Page 3) (Top voted first)

I will be going back to work and will be testing for illegal drug use. I am on Neurontin due to a medical problem. Will I get a FALSE POSITIVE result on a test for illegal drugs?

I've been going to the same Pain Mgt. DR. for almost 2 years. All my tests came back good, all was well. 3 weeks ago, he started me on GABAPENTIN. I had the Urine test and today it had came back positive for alcohol! The test they took today will turn out to be positive also because I am still on the GABAPENTIN again. My dr says he can't do anything about it. I'm going to do something about it, I haven't touched a drop of alcohol in 15 years. I found out that most all tests are done by a test called LCMS. If a false positive shows up, they are supposed to do another test to see if it is a False Positive. They did not! Forgot to tell you what I take: Lisinopril, Norco, Ativan. Has anyone ever had Alcohol show up after taking Gabapentin?

If they do a gcms it will but generally they dont unless it comes up positive/false positive

I lost my pain contract due to Gabapentin showing up alcohol in my system. If it takes the rest of my life, I will prove my innocence! I did NOT drink a drop of alcohol. I think maybe it is that I have bad sinus' and I had taken some Benedryl and that could have caused the false positive with Gabapentin. That's all I can think of.

When you type in neurontin or gabapentin it says it can cause a false positive in labs for protein or something. idk if it means for protein or the proteins in it can cause false positive for a drug but I've heard it showing up for methadone with someone before who was on it while they were incarcerated, so they had access to nothing else and u need to take a urine before going to work. Was release and she kept failing for methadone and getting sent to the hole so she had to get off of it. A month after she stopped she stopped coming up for methadone. I guess it all depends how ur body processes things. I've had a fp before from tramadol causing a suboxone fp. And I had a false positive for valium before but idk what caused that. It's like my body always creates false positives and mimics other enzymes in my system, causing false positives which is scary since I'm on probation and already went to jail for a week for the suboxone fp. Until lab tests came back that it was false and that really sucked.

I am also in recovery and recently tested positive for amphetamines which I haven't done in years and I also take gabapentin in a daily basis. I believe it is causing the test to fail but no one believes it. I'm sorry this happened to you too and I hope all went well for you

My husband has been clean now for 8 months. He was in a rehab facility and was drug tested last week, he failed for Gabapentin. He didn't take it never has taken it and somehow it showed up is there anything that can cause this to happen? We are requesting blood work and hair follicle test to prove his innocence but I know when he's lying and he definitely didn't take gabapentin so please help I can't figure out why this would show up has this happened to anyone else?

First of all your theory that you know when your husband is lying is flawed because NO ONE KNOWS WHAT AN ADDICT WILL SAY OR DO WHEN CONFRONTED ON ISSUES OF DRUG USE AND HISTORY. Now if you believe in his innocence that's completely a different story worth making the case for. It's very simple, you have the right at your own cost to have the test rerun for accuracy preferably by a lab that utilizes GC/MS testing protocol as they are inclusive to nanogram certainty, there is no disputing the results of sophisticated testing method like that. Why someone would ever use gaba is beyond me when less toxic greater euphoria producing substances are as easy to buy as candy these days. So I tend to believe your story, as for the *****s who administer these first line testing procedures it's sometimes a challenge for them to print your name or date accurately on the specimen. At a Methadone clinic they 'should' be able to further test the urine for further analysis to see if it's just trace amounts (depending on the amount of neurotin you were taking). I came up positive for opiates after 14 years clean and we discovered it was from poppy seed bagels (like 3 of them I ate 3 days before). I never knew that whole poppy seed thing was true. Anyway, they believed me and they tested it and it came up so low they let me keep my take home meds. I lucked out!

I recently was drug-tested and my drug test was positive for methamphetamines but I don't use drugs I think it was because of my Neurontin the company manager has called me back and I need proof that Neurontin causes a false positive on a drug screen

I took a drink test. Im perscribed neurontin and they said it came back that I had oxycodone in my system. I have never took oxycodone. It's complete bs!

I took an instant drug test today & it showed positive for oxy. I'm prescribed suboxone & neurontin. My home confinement officer sent it to thee lab & it should be back Mon or Tue. When you tested positive for oxy did they send it off too? I'm worried. I shouldn't be cause I haven't taken oxy for at least 10 years. Plz lmk. Ty

If the Dr sends it in to a lab they can determine every individual pill u have taken. Trust me, my Dr busted me. I was on oxycodone, and took a Percocet 10, and a Norco 10, and he read off every pill...labs are a b**** to beat...

This happened to me at my Methadone clinic in tested positive for gabapentin which I'd never even heard of let alone taken. Trying to figure it out too.

First off, OxyContin is an opiate....?

On methadone but no opiates for 10 years? Come on. We see through your lies.

I can't tell if you're trying to look cool & pretending to know what you're talking about or if you're the dumbest dopehead I've ever heard. Addicts know a hell of a lot about what they're taking.

If you are you are on methadone and take a drug that isn't prescribed to you, that is exactly what happens. Good job at keeping up the stereotype that addicts are lying *****s.

I'm in a drug treatment residentual program, I am perscribed Gabbapentin and Naproxin. A drug test show's positive for morphine, xanax, oxicontin, and oxicodone. The program will send the results to my legal mandation committee. They could remand me to jail.

Can marijuana give a false positive for benzos? Iv been clean for 3months and go the clinic for random drug test and have taken no tablets or drugs other then marijuana but my urine test came back positive for benzos!! Really confused..

They indeed can tell exactly what you take. The labs can run specific tests to determine exactly what was used. I had court today and had a false positive for cocaine and have no idea why. I'm feeling very defeated and sad as I keep having marijuana levels going up and down as well. I'm not sure weekday to do.

I think that the ones that do the drug tests should know which medicine can cause false positives. Even if they don't know, they can use that wonderful new fangled gadget called Google. I was actually looking it up to see if it is used as a mood stabilizer. I'm not liking the side effects of the Depakote and the other day when nobody showed up at the psychiatrist office there was a lady who had been waiting since 12:30. After finally getting in touch with the secretary, she asked us what meds we were on and I overheard her say Neurontin. So while looking online it says that it may cause a false positive; doesn't specify what it could come up as. I would have told them to run it again and to prove that you are being honest, I'd tell em do a hair sample. The thing is that they can go back 6 months with a hair test. I hope that everything worked out for you and you were able to keep your license.

If you don’t like getting false positives, consider your dose of Gabapentin, 800mg 6x daily is extreme. It is not surprising if you are trying to recover from drugs, that you want a high dose. But having worked in a rehab, I’ve worked with many clients who kept requesting higher doses expecting results when half of the battle is self work. Methadone is a drug as well, and obviously it will come up positive. It’s a drug. If you don’t like false positives, consider trying abstinence. Personally I think Methadone is a bigger problem and have seen people get DUIs after going to get their dose. That didn’t surprise me either, most I’ve come in contact with after their dose were slurring words and not functioning 100%. Of course, I don’t agree with them getting charged for a DUI when they were being prescribed and Methadone clinics are very aware people drive after. However, it’s your body. Why risk your life and legal credibility? Find a doctor you can be honest with and work with to manage your prescriptions. Also, Kratom may be legal but it tests you positive at times. There’s an opioid derivative. Don’t expect mandated programs to excuse it because it’s substituting a drug for another drug.
