Will My Doctor Switch Me From Hydrocodone To Fyntnol Patch (Top voted first)
UpdatedMy pain management doctor currently has me on 10/350 Narco 1 three times a day. i see him for my follow up tomorrow morning. My aunt has lukimia and some other problems with pain and takes 25mg fentanyl patches. i was out of town visiting them and didn't take my prescription with them and as i was helping them move i was in pain. she loaned me one of her fentanyl patches and it really helped a lot!! thinking of talking to my pain mang. doctor about if he will let me try some of them out. what are the odds he would switch me to fentanyl from narco 10/350's (1 three times a day)? if he does say i can try it if i want will he still keep me on the narco just in case the patch dosnt work as well for me? the narco helps me a lot but the fentanyl patch worked really really well. i was out of pain completely where as the narco i have to take right on time or ill hurt bad and the pain never goes completely away but with the fentanyl it seemed like it did. how can i suggest trying the fentanyl out? how should i ask him? should i tell him i tried one of my aunts because i didn't take my narco with me when i went out of town and was hurting bad?

I'm afraid no one is going to be able to tell you what your doctor will do. The only way to find out those answers is by talking to him.
As to the Fentanyl, that would be taking a pretty big jump from the Norco to the strongest narcotic available, so it would leave you nowhere else to go, once you get tolerant to it.
Learn more Fentanyl details here.
There are other options, besides these two medications.
Thus, what I'd suggest is just talking to your doctor and letting them know that the Norco isn't quite handling your pain, so you can see what other options they offer up.
Have you tried anything else?
Besides being very illegal to share pain meds from your aunt, therefore putting her in danger of losing her needed meds. I'm afraid your dr. will and rightly should see this as drug seeking behavior. There are a lot of options between your current dose of meds and a 25mcg fentanyl patch. If by chance he acquiesces and gives you fentanyl he would be remiss to also give you the meds you ate saying are not working for you now... not trying to be a jerk, but with a history of sharing meds, and not having a full understanding or even researching them you are throwing up red flags all over the place. I sincerely hope you get control of your pain, but asking for not an increase, but a whole new by name medicine will get you into big trouble
And any ethical doctor who wants to retain his license would not take such a silly chance. You should value your life more than to go beyond his prescriptions and advice. Fentanyl kills, and with as many meds you are requesting what's to stop you from doubling up on either or both medicines. Please be careful!!
Just ask him. Tell your Dr. that you have heard how well they work and you would like to try them. They are very strong though, I was on them for awhile but I had a problem with them staying on.
I have had chronic pain for the past 7 years and have been on Norco 7.5/325 four times daily for about 5 1/2 years. I have cysts on my spinal cord that I'm having surgery for this summer. I also have ankylosing spondylitis and fibromyalgia. I developed a tolerance for the Norco and after 4 hours was in a lot of pain. Two months ago I was switched to 30 mg of Hysingla for a month followed by 40 mg for about a month. I was given 5 mg of Norco to take as rescue but only 1 or two a day. The Hysingla would only give me relief for about 12-14 hours instead of 24. Yesterday my pain doctor switched me to a 12 mcg Fentanyl patch. I put it on at 4 pm yesterday. This morning I felt like it was possibly starting to work. I had been instructed to take a Hysingla yesterday morning so in theory it would still have been in my system until this afternoon. Tonight I'm in a lot of pain but also feel weird. I feel anxious and have a bit of restless leg. My doctor said I shouldn't feel any withdrawal symptoms even though I've been on the Norco for so long. I also realize that Fentanyl is a lot stronger. I feel the same way I did when I went off of Tramadol after taking it for over a year. So I'm almost wondering if I am having withdrawal symptoms. If so, how long will they last. Also since I am in a lot of pain do you think I need to go uo to 25 mcg? Again I realize Fentanyl is a lot stronger but I also need to be able to function. Would the Fentanyl be fully in my system now after 24 hours or is it still too soon to feel optimal pain relief?
You should never loan prescription medication to anybody. You could be charged with distribution. And Fentanyl has a min. mandatory sentence . DEA is cracking down on fentanyl.
