While I was pregnant I was prescribed to take ranitidine for heartburn. After my child was born I took a urine test that came up negative. Cps sent these sample off and said I tested positive for meth. I submitted to a hair test on my child and a nail test on myself. The results were positive for meth. The Metabolites were very low in both of us but the amphetimine levels were high, but I had ephedrine during the c section. Will ranitidine cause a false positive in a hair test and where is the documented proof? They have taken my newborn away from me its five days now without touching or seeing her. I am desperate to get my baby back. If a doctor responds please be willing to submit documentation in writing. Thank you to anyone with the answer.

I am in the military and have never taken methamphetamine much less know what it is but tested positive. Fortunately the hospital had google and when the doctor came I showed studies of zantac causing false positives. She said they redid the test at my request and it was negative. Oddly she said why are you worried, you don't come close to resembling a methamphetamine addict. Well maybe thats because I'm not, but what about all these people that didn't have a sane doctor like I had. This is a crime that people are told they are positive and have children taken away. Every doctor should be required to know the most common false positives.

I'm not sure what u are implying, but it's absolutely true that Zantac causes false positives. I've never even seen meth, and it happened to me. So before u start accusing someone, check ur facts. Again, call Zantac! Install a call recorder when u do, and if they won't call, have them listen to ur call. Seriously! Google it. My God, people's lives are being traumatized by this!!

Get Razor Wash and take your own test. It will be expensive. If You've used...put it in your past. Here's the deal, that baby needs you. Get yourself together and do this. The test is about $300-400. Check around. The razor wash is about $80 on Internet. Order overnight. It takes 6-8 hours to get ready for test. Do it and take it to the judge and family and children. Stay clean because in the long run they will know and so will you.

Reading of you guys stories just absolutely breaks my heart. I'm going through some bs with DFACS in Georgia right now. They came to my house in October of last year trying to take my youngest daughter away from me because I tested positive for marijuana 10 years ago (loooooong story) thank goodness they didn't take her because they put her under my husbands care, but I'm not allowed to be alone with her for "safety" reasons. My case worker seems to be on my side though because she sees my children are well taken care of. We live in a nice house, plenty of food, nice clothes, they each have their own bedroom, unconditional love, and they all do great in school. I have to take parenting and drug classes (parenting is already done) and do random urine and hair screenings. I test positive for PCP because I'm on Lamictal. They haven't said anything to me about it yet...and I have yet to do a hair test. I also take over the counter Zantac here and there for my heart burn. Now, after reading everyone's post, I am TERRIFIED! I hope everyone's case is over and done with and you were able to get your kid(s) back. This is a nightmare that no parent should have to go through. You all are in my thoughts.

My daughter just HAD TO HAND her 9 months old baby girl over because she took zantac and they did a hair follicle dec 1st. please call me {edited for privacy}. If you are being falsely accused, demand either a GC or AA screening - at the agency's cost...NOT yours.

Call Zantac. I did. They confirmed it. But said it had to be a dr that contacted them for them to send out information abt it bc it's not available to consumers.

Why not contact the makers of ranitidine and find out from them if it causes a false positive for amphetamines & if they confirm, ask them to send you the documentation.

Stacey the zantac is what's causing you to have a false positive for amphetamines the same thing happened to me except I was taking OTC zantac aka ranitidine, my advice to you is get a page printed out that explains specifically the heartburn medicine you're taking does in fact cause a false positive for amphetamines then if you got to prove it was the zantac that caused the false positive then request a hair test it will probably cost you anywhere between 75$ to 150$ but it's well worth it the hair test goes back 90 days and will clear your name immediately. good luck

Isaboo, like I said already I tested positive for methamphetamine and I don't do drugs. I went to my Pcp and she said that indeed ranitidine can cause a false positive. I then had her give me a drug test cause I was still upset about the positive drug test that I took at my pain clinic. She said she knew I wasn't on drugs and indeed ranitidine can cause a false positive for methamphetamine. So she took my urine and sent it to the lab and it didn't show any signs of anything other than what I take.I came up negative for the drug so now I asked her to send that results to my other doctor so he can believe me when I tell him I do not and never will do drugs.

If you live in the state of California, and you have proven that your drug test was a result of a false positive from Zantac, and CPS has taken your newborn away, you need to check out State Senate Bill 2669, Presley Law, 1990, Penal Code 11165.13 Ca. Welfare and Institutions Code, section 305. House and Safety code Section 123605 and Voluntary Service Plan Committee. These laws were all broken by whoever called CPS.

yes ranitidine aka zantac will definitely cause a false positive for meth but what's strange about you're story is the urine test came back clean and you're hair test came back positive for meth I had the opposite to happen to me I failed urine test for meth then I took a blood test an my blood test came back clean but to make a long story short they said the meth had time to leave my system so I took a panel 5 hair test an passed it with flying colors wasn't a trace of meth nor any other drugs an the reason I failed the urine test is because I had been taking OTC ranitidine, I'm not sure how accurate the hair test is but all I know is it was 100% right on the money with me the blood test was accurate also so idk what to tell you, it's hard to argue against a hair analysis maybe there was human error involved an they got you're results mixed up with somebody else's if you know you are 100% clean I would do more research an request another hair test because the hair test is really the gold standard in drug testing an do it while you still got time because if it's passed 90 days since you're last hair test then you're new hair test will be irrelevant and they can use that time span against you the way they used it against me when I took the blood test an they said it had time to leave my system an ultimately the hair test cleared me beyond the shadow of a doubt, so good luck to you I hope you get things straightened out

I have a letter from Scott Haycocks, senior case manager of Keiser Permanente, " Your concern in its entirety was forewarned to the patient coordinator of Dameron Hospital. A response was received from the manager on behalf of the coordinator on September 29, 2014. In response the manager shared that the positive result was from the substrate of Zantac". {edited for privacy}. Also, I called Zantac on Oct. 23, and their phone number is 1-888-285-9159. I talked to a nurse named Nancy, she told me three times that yes, Zantac causes false positives. This information is free to anyone who calls. The FDA, under the interference section, ranitidine, which is the trade name for Zantac, shows that it is an interference drug that can cause false positives. If you can prove that you were prescribed Zantac, I would go back and sue them.

I've been on zantac since 2006, went to the hospital in 2007 was told that I was a "meth head" by the ER's PA on staff. Never in my life ever have I used Meth. My children were taken due to this. I was working my service plan and random drug drops every week, the drug tests were still comming back positive for Meth. After fighting this battle for many years I was forced to sign my children over to my family, years later I gave birth to my daughter who was taken immediately into protective custody, because I was once accused of doing meth, still i'd never done Meth. I was still on the Zantac. My daughter was adopted. By my family. Last year I gave birth in florida insstead of Illinois where i'd had my. Other children, this time, I took my hansome adorable healthy baby boy home with me. I was not on the Zantac, because I'd been put on phenogren and viisteril due to severe hyper emasis all through this pregnancy being hospitalized through the majority of it. To rap this up. My mother died last June 11th 2013 in her sleep at 56 yrs old & @ this past Christmas my husband & I got a call from his mother, who'd been in the hospital very sick & she just received newsthat the dr'ssaid she wasn't going to make it another 6 months. So we packed all our house up & put our belongs into storage in Florida not knowing what was ahead & cmae back to Illinois to be here for his mothers care (with our new baby boy) BIGGEST MISTAKE EVER! We took our son into the health department to get his shots that were due and instead of him getting shots a "Dcfs" worker was there & took our son into protective custody for "past history" I am devestated,but once again, more then willing to work my service plan. Cooperative with all requests. Only get to see my baby boy 2hrs on tues & 2hrs on Thursday, supervised by a social service worker. Now this last court hearing I've been court ordered to random drug drops every week. Only to find out that once again imm back on the Zantac 300mg twice a day and now testing positive for Meth again! I am so upset, but so happy to see these posts, I've taken the time to reserch this on the internet now and ive spoken to pharmacists, doctors, hospital staff, and noone is willing to back up that Zantac is the reason for these false positives & accusations that I'm on Meth. I love all my children with all of my heart and this is killing me that this is going on. I need help fighting this and would be so greatful for any and all knowledge that anyone could share with me to help me prove this. Please share any info anyone can. Thanks to all and God Bless!

sorry to hear of your situation childless in tn I failed 2 urine test for meth the first test I thought it was because I drank a red bull energy drink just minutes prior to the test so the second test I never had a red bull and I still failed come to find out I was getting the false positives for meth because of the zantac aka ranitidine my blood test came back clean but that wasn't good enough for them they said it had time to leave my blood. so what I end up doing was having a hair analysis performed an my hair test came back 100% clean not a trace of any illegal drugs so that cleared me immediately I ain't on probation anymore. all I can go by is my own experience the hair test I know for a fact was 100% accurate because no major drug was in my system or had been in my system the best I can tell ya is take another hair test because human error might be to blame for your results but if it has been longer than 90days since you last failed test then another hair test won't do you any good because the test goes back 90 days an they can still say you was guilty the first time and if it has been over 90 days just do your research there might be the possibility of the hair test getting it wrong good luck
