Why Not Included In Victoza Patient Help Programs?
UpdatedI am on medicare. After six months each year, the cost of Victoza throws me into the donut hole. I cannot afford the $1800 cost for Victoza for July through December so I do without, much to the dismay of my physician. (I start back taking it in January.)
Are there any programs which might assist me for the last six months each year?
Note: Novadisk has two patient assist programs, but for reasons I cannot fathom those of us on Medicare are specifically excluded from these programs. Together, my wife and I earn 340% of the federal poverty level for a family of 2. Thanks.

Hello, Tim! How are you? I'm sorry about what you're dealing with.
Have you spoken to your doctor about trying a different insulin that might be more affordable for you? It isn't safe to just go without for months, at a time, and let your blood sugar rage out of control.
As to why those on government assistance are excluded, it is due to the contractual agreement between the manufacturers, and those that administer these programs for the government. The manufacturers agreed to lower their prices, so the government programs don't have to pay the retail prices, but in exchange, those on those government programs are not allowed any other discounts, or assistance.
I know, that doesn't help you, once you're in the donut hole, and have to cover the regular price yourself, I'm just answering your question as to why you can't receive the assistance that others can.
Have you tried any of the other prescription programs, such as GoodRx, to see if they may make it cheaper for you?
