Why Increase Dosage For 93 Year Old?

Father's dosage was increased by doctor. I suspect that the nursing home may just want to keep Dad in his wheelchair to keep him from falling, rather than concern for his memory. VA doctors wanted to know why the increase in dosage?
Dad is extremely sleepy most of the time, moreso than with the 5 mg dosage. I am not sure if he has had seizures, but he has some jerking arm movements occasionally that I have observed during visits.

Sam is correct, there are several reasons they may increase the dosage. The sleepiness and etc. are just side effects that should wear off as his body gets used to the new dosage.
My grandfather is prescribed this medication. Sometimes they will adjust the medication to a stronger dosage to help with the increased memory loss. Sometimes it can even be for a developing tolerance to the medication
My Mother was diagnosed w/Alz. 14 years before she died.At that time,no meds had been approved for alz. and she started having seizures within 3 years that worsened to the point she would turn over a chair she was in or break the toilet seat off due to the severe contortions. There have been 5 family members of mom's family with alz starting with my grandmother, mothers 3 of her sisters and my own sister. Now I am having so many of the symtoms that I have seen in being the caregiver for all the others and even though my doctor keeps saying I am only depressed and has had me on rx for depression for years, I have gone to a neurologist outside of my insurance subsidized medical doctor by paying for all the tests myself (including MRI, EEG, blood tests etc) and that neurologist did not rule out Alz. in the future but at this time, he believes the athrophy seen in my MRI and results of the EEG show that I have been having complex simple seizures which usually are not visable to others other than perhaps a blank stare. I have had sleeping problems for some time and restless leg syndrome was said to be causing it. I think the problem I have with with legs plus some twitching nerves all might be outward signs of the seizures too. Sounds like your Dad is having seizures also and you might be able to get his doctors to prescribe some medication to help to control this unless they are like my doctor and is more concerned with adhearing to the insurance companys request to keep each patients costs at a minumum unless there is a serious emergency that forces them to order some of the expensive test to be done before they worsen. Good luck with your dad.
