Why For Me?

Updated March 20, 2013
Concerned Female Says:

I recently visited my OB/GYN with concerns about adverse reactions due to stopping Loestrin24. My husband and I are trying to conceive, and to remedy my intense headaches, severe cramping, and heavy menstuation my doctor gave me a 3-week sample of Minivelle. Everything I have read states this drug is used during menopause. Why, then, has my doctor chose this for me at 25 while trying to conceive?

Even the manufacturer's webpage directly states that Minivelle (estradiol transdermal system) is a prescription medicine patch that contains estradiol (an estrogen hormone), used to treat moderate to severe hot flashes due to menopause.

That said, I too wonder why your doctor would have prescribed it for fertility reasons. Did he/she check your hormonal levels to see if you were ever low in estrogen? That's about the only thing that makes logical sense from my perspective.

I hope this helps!
