Why Doesn't This Work For My Pain?-hydrocodone Acetaminophen 5 325 (Page 2)
UpdatedI had a total shoulder replacement and my doctor gave me Percocet to go home with. They immediately took the pain away for about 4-5 hours. Now she has given me Vicodin 5/325 and they are not working, not even 2 at a time. Why don't they work for me but the Percocet does? How do I tell my doctor they are not working without her thinking I just want Percocet?
No matter strength vicodin never worked & also last 30 min if even helped. Ee r all diff. I wud caution use of Tramadol. I took 7 yrs as lasted long & didnt make me loopy. I wud gv myself breaks when pain bettef week at time, but withdrawals r very hard, 72 hrs, ,,nite u r like a elec shock in low spine, lots hot showers, even when ween to smallest amt. If take 3 days u likely wont get addicted. Oxycoden was only pain med tbat really works.
But i can only take 2.5mg every 2 to r hrs, . its.seriously heavy. After epidural, am able get enuf relief to go off all but naprosyn & had to ween tl 2.5 at nite 2 weeks.

I realize this is old but just in case someone is looking at this, Endocet is an Oxycodone base the same as Percocet or Percodan, so it will work the same. Always look at what the base drug is. It's either Codeine, Hydrocodone, or Oxycodone (mixed with Tylenol or Ibuprofen); OxyContin = (Continuously released pure Oxycodone), Morphine = (immediate release); MSContin = (time released) based. Tramadol is the only one that isn't a narcotic. The rest are and they are leveled differently. Tramadol is the lowest, Tylenol 3 (Codeine) next, then Hydrocodone. Oxycodone based and Morphine are much stronger and are more for mid to severe chronic pain or for cancer patients. The Contin ones are 12hr long extended release medications. Morphine works for me whereas Oxy I absolutely hate. They make me feel like I'm on speed and they keep me awake. I was against them before I even tried them and I voiced my concerns to my dr because they have a much higher addiction rate than even Morphine pills. They have destroyed lives and I was terrified of them. I agreed to try them because I was told by my dr it was either Morphine or Oxy and being more scared of Morphine, I agreed. I ended up taking 1-2 pills and refused to take another. Was put on Morphine extended release and they were fine. Never became addicted at all. Was able to withdraw from them. I'm still on Norco which is hydrocodone and a similar base as the Morphine but I always take less than prescribed. Been on them for at least 12yrs and never had a problem.
Oxycodone is a scary drug and if I was told it was that or nothing I would suffer in pain before ever taking it again. I personally have never had an addictive personality unlike some but I would never recommend that drug since it's bad. Of course everyone reacts differently to a medication but Morphine or MSContin is better than Oxy and on the same level. I never felt doped up or high on it. The reason people are misusing the Oxy medications is due to them giving a "high" or "speed" feeling. They cause you to be wired like speed would so people have become addicted. Morphine, on the other hand, gives a relaxed feeling if anything. I wasn't able to sleep on Oxy and since I take medications at night the most, it was counter productive. During the day I was fine on MSContin, no feeling of drowsiness or anything. Able to work and drive on it. The last thing I want at night when trying to sleep is something that will keep me awake. People who are abusing it want that feeling so they are misusing the drug in high numbers. Makes Oxy a very deadly drug. If anyone has ever been addicted to methamphetamine or any other speed type medication then Oxy is definitely not the RX for them. If they have an addictive personality then realize that and refuse it. Don't walk down that road if you know it will end badly for you. If you are the type to never take more than prescribed or take less than prescribed then you may not have an issue but not everyone is and they need to realize that.

Did you ever find relief for your arthritis?
I have horrible pain in my neck and hydrocodone didn’t help. I’m trying to figure out what I can exclude as why my neck is hurting, based on hydrocodone not working. I have arthritis, but that may not be why it’s hurting like it is.
Thank you.
