Why Does Oxycodone Come In Higher Doses Than Hydrocodone?

I'm trying to manage pain for degenerative stenosis and see that hydrocodone is usually in 5 or 10 mg pills, while oxy, which is supposedly 2+ times stronger, is in 20 , 30 or 40 mg pills. What am I missing here?

Originally, since it has the Acetaminophen added, the Hydrocodone products, such as Vicodin, Lortab and etc. were meant to be only for short-term use. Just to treat pain that was expected to resolve in a week or two, such as what someone may experience after they've had surgery or been in an accident. Currently, the government is trying to transition it back to being used this way, by restricting how much doctors can prescribe and for how long, though they haven't completely managed to do so, yet.

(This would be the same as the original intent for Percocet, which contains Oxycodone and Acetaminophen.)

Oxycodone, however, was intended to be used for long-term pain management, such as for cancer patients or people with other medical conditions or injuries that may not resolve in a short period of time and may have to take something for years.

The conversion is only 1 and half times, though, not two. So 5mgs of Oxycodone would be equivalent to 7.5mgs of Hydrocodone.
