Why Did They Change Oxycontin?
(Newest replies first)

I have been taking oxycontin for years for chronic back pain. Now I can't get any relief from pain because of the change. Is there any thing else I can take to stop the pain? I can't stand the pain and the new ones give me a headache. Like I need more pain. Come on and get real. Don't punish the people that need it.

Re: in pain (# 1)
Unfortunately it’s most likely of the so called over use or abuse that some people are doing. Manufacturers are getting pressure from the government or the CDC. Also, there are many people who do not take their meds as directed. I don’t take OxyContin but I totally know what you are saying. About 10 years ago, my dr suggested I get a pain pump implanted & I would no longer need to worry about taking opioids anymore. He monitors, refills & adjust it as needed. I also have medicine for any breakthrough or spasms I get. I have stenosis, spondylothesis & DDD from a previous work injury. What I really need is a disc replacement but worker comp won’t approve. Medication is the cheaper route. I hope they find something to get to the root cause of your problems.
Can you use a pill cutter on the new oxycontin that turns to gum if it is crushed?
I have been taking this for about fifteen yrs have not mistreated it and I agree with you that it does not work as good as it did it does not seem to give as much pain relieve or last as long as it did,and I have more stomach problems with it than I did.
Don't call Purdue. File an adverse report with the FDA.

File the report. That is the only way this harm can be prevented from being secret.
the new oxycontin they made sucks the new ones they made do not work anyone else have problems like this
They changed the formulation to help prevent abuse, if someone tries to crush or chew these, they turn into a gummy goo that retains its time released properties.
However, there have been many complaints that they do not work as well and have caused odd side effects.
For people having a problem with the medication, I suggest reporting the problem to both Purdue and the FDA at the following numbers:
Purdue Pharma number for drug safety/medication issues:
888.726.7535
FDA MedWatch number:
800-332-1088

Are there any questions or comments?
I have had neck SX and also have several issues w/ back and SX is not an option. I want to know why the receipe for the OxyContin was changed. It doesn't work anymore since the change--what else (OTHER meds and WHY the change. If it ain't broke-don't fix it. Is the/formula same for generic? Seems like the 40 OC took 20-30-minutes to kick in--now it's over an hour and doesn't last very long but I have been on then for a few years. Anyody got any suggestions? Thx for th inout-peace
