Why Did The Oxycodone 10/325 Work For My Pain?
(Newest replies first)

My dr switched to Oxycodone this month 20 mg. I actually agreed to 10 mg, insurance agreed only to 20mg. I’ve been taking them and I do not like them. I get nauseated and feel weird after taking them. I don’t know why Dr switched? I feel I’m not getting control of my pain as I did with Oxycodone. 12 hours is terrible waiting out!

The 12 hour dosage formulation is Oxycontin, and it is a time released formulation, so it may take awhile for your body to adjust to not receiving the full dose, at once, like you were previously.
Additionally, the 325mgs in the previous medication was Acetaminophen, and it potentiates the action of the Oxycodone for some people that take it, so it could be that it just worked better for you with that included.
The FDA warns that these medications carry the risk of being habit forming, and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth, and constipation.
However, if you are on the time released formulation of Oxycodone, it is not safe to cut those tablets in half, since that may cause you to get too much of the medication, at once, which could result in overdose in some people.
How are you doing, now?
I agree with Maria. Also, if the acetaminophen helped, you could take half the 20mg with a dose of OTC acetaminophen, if the Oxycodone does not contain any. But check with your Dr first.
If your getting nauseous and feel weird the dose may be too high for you. When you say Oxycodone 10/325 that was Percocet maybe having the Acetamnophen in it helped more with the pain. If insurance only pays for 20mg you could split them and take 10mg if dr is okay with that. You didn’t say if you take it once a day or twice or how many times but if it’s once then split them take 10mg then take the other 10mg 8-12 hrs later, again if dr is okay with that. Good luck
