FYI this is Tramadol, a mildly-addictive narcotic w/ properties of SSRIs as well. As of Dec. 2012 it has become a controlled substance so not only do you need an Rx for it but every time an Rx is filled, the DEA is automatically notified. You shouldn't take it w/out an Rx, and if you are allergic to codeine, morphine or if you've ever had a bad reaction or if you are currently taking an SSRZi, or if you have a seizure disorder. That identification is correct.

However, Tramadol isn't presently classified as a narcotic, though that has changed several times since it was brought to market and may change again at any time. Right now, it is just listed as a centrally acting synthetic analgesic.

The reason it is considered a controlled substance is due to the fact that it does have habit forming potential.

And just why do you think that it is a controlled substance? It sure isn't b/c it is so pretty. The reason it is a controlled substance is b/c it does have mild narcotic properties i.e. the drug does attach to some of the body's mu receptors, which is where narcotics attach to provide their pain-relieving properties. No it isn;t as strong as hydrocodone or morphine or oxycodone but yes it does function in similar ways it's just not nearly as strong. And that is why it is now a controlled substance.

I realize this is from an old post, however in regards to the drug Tramadol being a controlled substance. The post was made Feb of 2013 by {mjrblessed}...Who stated that as of Dec 2012 Tramadol was a controlled substance. Please state where I may reference this information. I.E. The DEA website states that Tramadol is currently reviewing an action to schedule Tramadol as IV drug. As of yet it is NOT scheduled. Only in some states is Tramadol controlled. I suspect sometime in Feb of 2014 it will be controlled. At that point Never again think about obtaining without proper means.
