Hi Karen,
The pill you are describing is a 25mg Ephedrine + 200 mg Guaifenesin tablet, made by PDK Labs. The brand name for this pill is "Two-Way MaxBrand". These do have cross scores on the back.
Ephedrine is commonly used as a stimulant, appetite suppressant, concentration aid, decongestant, and to treat hypotension associated with anaesthesia.
Guaifenesin is used to relieve chest congestion.
An interesting combination of medications in my opinion, but it is what it is. :)
