Do you recall if there was any sort of imprint or marking on the pill? I do know that all U.S. prescription drugs are required by law to have a marking of some kind for identification purposes. If this pill has no marking then odds are that it may be an over-the-counter sleep aid or possibly even a foreign medication (made outside of the US).
Any other details would be great if you can. Thanks!
