Which Is Stronger Hydrocodone 10 325 Or Oxycodone 5 325 (Page 4)
UpdatedI have been taking Hydrocodone 10/325 for chronic pain, 1 pill every 6 hours. My Dr. just prescribed Oxycodone 5/325 with up to 2 pills every 6 hours. Which is stronger?
There IS NO ASPIRIN in Vicodin or Oxy!! It's acetaminophen, not in the aspirin family.
The same thing happened to me. The yellow very effective; but not the white narco; they still make the yellow but my pharmacy said they contract with the other company now so will only give me the white; I suspect cheaper for them. I told the company the yellow is more effective and they said they will tell management and if enough people say that they will go back to getting the yellow, but that most people don't complain. So if we keep voicing our opinion to Albertsons and Safeway they will change their policy.
mrcat211, Gabapentin works on nerve type pain. Gabapentin isn't for all types of pain.
My empathy for your 12 surgeries. I've ad 3: knee, wrist plate, and most serious, back, laminectomy 3level, L3, L-4, L-5, and suffer from bothe cervical (neck) and lumbar stenosis. It is a progressive, incurable disease of the spinal column which can be treated surgically from time o time to prevent loss of bowel/bladder control, and loss of function of limbs (quadriplegia or paraplegia) so pain killers are a part of living with it but you don't want to take so much, and for so long that you risk that the meds lose effectiveness, or you become addicted. I'm not sure if it's so bad to become addicted so long as they improve quality of life.
However, what else is a part of your program to improve your quality of life and to decrease your pain level, while increasing your participation in your life?
I find that other treatments help significantly in conjunction w/ pain medication. You also need movement, guided by a physical therapist. Massage therapy can offer significant improvement by releasing cramped & seized up muscles in the painful area. NSAIDS can help significantly in conjunction w/ pain medication. So it is a multi-pronged treatment. You need to reduce inflammation and increase movement first.
Then you need to see a physiatrist (physical medicine doctor) to be evaluated for pain which has emanated into peripheral nerve damage pain, an outcome of having suffered pain from other conditions, like back injury, etc. Please do learn about this, b/c this pain is untouched by the strongest painkillers; it is a separate problem which needs a different category of treatment Meds, such as gabapentin or Pregablin, which address nerve pain. I found it to be a miracle and life-changing.
Hope this helps.
JENNIFER,
HOW ABOUT A MENTAL HEALTH VISIT; IM NOT TRYING TO BE RUDE, BUT GETTING RID OF ALL YOUR ORGANS IS NOT GOING TO CURE YOUR PROBLEMS. LET ME GUESS...YOUVE HAD A GASTRIC BYPASS, A LAP CHOLE, AN APPENDECTOMY, A COUPLE EXPLORATORY ABDOMINAL SURGERIES AND YOUR STILL IN PAIN, RIGHT? IM AN ICU NURSE AND I SEE IT ALL THE TIME...ADDICTION GOES FROM FOOD TO PAIN PILLS...ITS A HORRIBLE CYCLE OF MISERY. GET HELP WHILE YOUR STILL ALIVE.
325 is the amount of Tylenol in the pill so its the same in both if your taking the same # of pills a day
The 325 part is actually Tylenol or acetaminophen... Not aspirin...so that additional 500 mg of Tylenol is extra harmful to your liver. My pain Dr has me on oxy/acetaminophen 5/325 and said absolutely don't take any extra Tylenol...alternate with 600 mg ibuprofen.
I was told the same thing. My doctor did it for me and my insurance co pay which is usually $5.00 went to over a $100.00!! I regretfully took the white ones that hurt my stomach and do not help as well with my pain....
1 hydro 10/325 and 1 oxycodone 5/325 have the same amount of Tylenol in them. Now 1 percocet 5/325 is equal to 7.5 mg of hydro, so u actually could take 2 perc 5s and it would feel like u took 20 mg of hydro due to percocet being much stronger. Hope this helps! I just took 2 perc 5s this morning and it feels way better than taking 20mg of hydro.
Neither of these pills have Aspirin in them. They all have acetaminophen (Tylenol)
They don't contain aspirin, they contain acetaminophen (Tylenol). My pain management Dr considers them to be pretty much equal (oxy vs hydro). I get much better pain relief with the oxycodone while my husband gets relief from hydro. I did a genetic swab and it showed that I am a poor metabolizer of the hydro which explains my lack of relief from the drug. I now take oxy ER with 3 percocet daily for breakthrough pain and function well enough for ADLs but am unable to work.
Ask your doctor to put you on the fentanyl patch. If you have been on narcotics for this long your body is becoming dependent and immune to them. I had the same problem and my doctor put me on the patch. I love it. I don't get the ups and downs of the pills, I just get constant pain relief and as long as you don't abuse them you don't always find yourself wondering about your pills and how many you have and so on and so on. Those patches literally saved my life and the doctor still gave me some hydrocodone just for breakthrough pain. I do go to a pain clinic and they're very strict and I love this because it keeps me from becoming addicted and holds me accountable. Good luck with this!
KittyKatz , Fentanyl patchs do work well for some. But, for some getting them to stick is a problem. For many that live in humid parts of the country, they have such a hard time with them staying on that they have to go back to the pills.
That is true, as I live in Dallas and have had that problem. The manufacture of the Duragesic patch Walmart carries seems to stay on very well. Sometimes it's just hit or miss and wiping your skin off with an alcohol swab first really helps
JOE, yes all hydrocodone and tylenol combination meds have 325 mg tylenol (acetaminophen). The FDA changed it in 2014 and no RX med can have more than 325 mg tylenol (acetaminophen).
Dr had me on hydrocodone 10/325 now he switch it to oxycodone 5/325 due to spinal stenosis severe back pain I really didn't want him changing it but he said this medication will work better for pain should I be worry?
Nana, oxycodone is a little stronger than hydrocodone. But, if you were taking hydrocodone 10 mg/acetaminophen 325 mg and your dr switched you to oxycodone 5 mg/acetaminophen 325 mg, that is not as strong as what you were taking before due to the decrease in dosage. If it isn't helping the pain, you need to tell your dr.
