I am in a confusing debate with my ex husband: Which is stronger, 30 mg of morphine sulfate E.R or 10 mg of methadone?
Re: Curls (# 120)
I understand the pain you went throu. I have chronic migraines. A couple times the ambulance had to pick me up because my heart started failing due to a killer migraine. The hospital didn't do anything for me. My regular dr. Prescribed rixatripam and doesn't work for me either. I went blind once as you said just for a few seconds but it was awful because I was driving. Sometimes I can have migraines 5/24 is horrible during that period I don't eat at all cuz the nausea or vomit even when I have an empty stomache. I take morphine cuz have back problems. it helps me to keep walking but don't take the pain away. I don't know if morphine is the strongest medicine but can say it doesn't help me. The Dr prescribed me hidromorphone 8mg and oxicodone but it doesn't work. I am finally going to get a surgery.

You are what's wrong with this world ! There are many many patients at methadone clinics because their pain caused an addiction Einstein like your husband. Grow up who are you to judge your husband is no better and I'm sure as far as who's who (a junkie or not) couldn't pick him out in a line up of MMT patients that have gotten their life back thanks to methadone.
Re: Lori (# 4)
Where in jersey because I am trying to find a doctor to help with pain management since I've been in pain management for 15 yrs n my doc died n I'm struggling to find a new doc.
Re: Frank (# 2)
That sucks l would file a complaint. Find another doc and make this old doctors life miserable by filing he needs training in how to deal with issues like you have
Re: Kathleen (# 3)
I have been taking Methadone 10 mg tablets, 2 @ 3 times a day for 14 years. I had migraines that were so bad I'd be driving down the road and I'd go blind for 30-60 seconds but it felt longer, and was so scary. I couldn't have any noise or light in the room and I would have severe nausea or vomiting. Since I've been taking the Methadone 10mg I hardly ever get a bad migraine and if I do I can take a Norco 7.5 and it goes away. I haven't increased my dosage in the 14 years that I've been taking it but I do take Norco 7.5 for my back and if I have a headache. I haven't had anymore problems with my sight since I started taking the Methadone. A lot of Doctors don't like to prescribe Methadone because they give it to people who are trying to get off of opiates. I was allergic to Triptans and Topamax. I hope you find something to help your migraines. I went through 15 years of being put on every drug and Bio-Feedback, so many ER visits that they knew me by name when I came in. Some ER's would call those of us who had severe migraines 4-7 a month "Drug Seekers" and I was so tired of going through that crap.

Yes, they do ask that kind of stuff at clinics. I'm from uk if I go on hoilday abroad we must have a letter off the clinic with your methadone or subuxone because if you get searched or leave the medication in your hand luggage and the airport staff find your methadone they'll take it away without a letter from the clinic doctor. So yeah that person is right you do need permission to leave the country etc. I'm on subutex 16mg I've been clean 14 years and I'd never touch methadone again it took 3 months of being very sick to get off the stuff. And you Americans are crazy 150mg doses? Wtf? In uk 120mg daily is max and not many get that much it's usually on average 60mg daily anymore and you've to collect your script daily from the pharmacy incase you over dose. My American cousins you're all crazy lol. Some dudes have a attitude problem on here. Don't judge about clinics and being addicts, without clinics most addicts would be in jail or dead. But for pain management I don't agree that methadone should be given it's careless of your doctors to ever give you methadone.
Methadone is for addicts really I don't see why people with pain management would have to go through withdrawals off methadone when they were never an addict, it's unfair to you guys. You should be given morphine etc not methadone. That's my opinion anyway. My uncle had terminal cancer and doctor gave him morphine 10mg 4x day and some long release morphine. I picked up his morphine tablets only like 20 tablets because if I couldn't get my subutex then they'd help me for 2 days.
Re: JUSTME360 (# 30)
I would like to know I was put on morphine sulfate imm 15 mg and morphaibe time reless 30 mg I been itcih like crazy I don't know what to do today was my last one but I still have the morphine relief one because they said I can't take Tylenol because off my liver elevented it but it was not the Norco it was Tylenol I took over the counter because I was having very high temp and it was UTI that I had and that's what was bring my fever had stop taking all my medicine before I start to take Tylenol extra strength and I only took 10 for 4 days my liver counts are going down when I was in the hospital dropping from 2000 to sat that I got it when I left the hospital it was 180 which am sure by know there normal so I wonder if I just can take my Norco because morphine don't help me with my pain and it has been causing a horrible itching
Re: Verwon (# 1)
Yes! Answered my question exactly and it completely checks out n makes sense. Methadone is a BAD MONKEY!!!’
Re: dean (# 97)
No,your imbecile it's 5times the strength of morphine
Re: Tanya (# 14)
I do not believe you are a RN. Methadone is stronger than Morphine. You are getting your half lives wrong. I am sincerely sorry if you are a RN.
Re: Frank (# 2)
I was on 4 10mg methadone day plus 4 7.5th oxycodone 4 10 yes then doc decided 2 go out business last yr since then been sever doctors all try would give me I would b better off taking motion so I didn't take nothing I went threw hell 4 2 months Goin thru withdraws I did it but I still have back pain and leg pain I was in a bad motorcycle acc couple hrs ago after several failed operations I lost my leg recently I went 2 a different doc she put me on 30mg 3 times day morphine helps little but not as good as methsdone
That's not true Metadone is way stronger do some research
That's misinformation. Do not listen to this person. 100 mils of morphine won't kill you, but 100 mg of methadone 100% will. My friend went into a coma from 100 mils of methadone. So you have no idea what you are speaking of.
I'm doing it the other way, 90mg of M.S. Contin (morphine) changing to 15mg of methadone, tablet form. In your estimation, does this seem the right does or will I be sick? Cheers, Frances
I was on 90mg of m.s. and the pain clinic said I'd been on it so long I wouldn't get the best pain relief (I was told to take them 12 hourly, but take all 3 together and they hold me for at least 24 hours) But now I'm now coming of m.s. onto 15mg of tablet form methadone. Is this the correct dosage, considering I'm not coming down, but at least the same dosage. Would appreciate your input, cheers Frances
With your medical background, maybe you can help me. The pain clinic is "upping" medication. I'm currently changing from 90mg of M.S. Contin (maybe different name here in Australia) to 15mg of 15mg of tablet form methadone. Is this less or equal to 30mg of M.S.? Appreciate a proper answer on this, cheers Frances
These "experts" often have no idea about real pain as they have never experienced it. Sorry to hear of your plight, hope it all works out for you (eventually) These "experts" should be put it pain that people with major injuries suffer. I don't think they'd last 10 seconds, but should be part of their training
As an opiate addict from Manhattan New York, there's a few things I'd like to mention regarding Morphine & Methadone. First off, I was born in the 60's. During the 70's & 80's opiate abuse was pretty high. It always killed any ailment I had. Later on, I became tired of the chase and got on Methadone. At first I got a slight euphoric feeling and the withdrawals vanished. As I continued to take the Methadone everyday, the only thing it did was kill the withdrawal symptoms and offered next to no euphoric effects. So, is Methadone stronger than Morphine? Yes and no. Here's the thing. If you ask a true opiate patient that's been clean for months this question, "right now, what would you rather have, a 40mg diskette of Methadone or Morphine?" Normally the addict would take the 40mg of Methadone. Here's why, that 40mg of Methadone will last up to two days, with the feeling of bliss and utopia. But, that's only if you are not dependent on it. Otherwise, the effects of Methadone are null if taken everyday. In my opinion Methadone is indeed stronger than Morphine, but they work differently.
Though I agree that TOO many Dr.s have no idea what real pain is, I think you're judgemental about other Methadone users. How do you know they're in the same boat as our husband's? I used to work in the system (in Australia) and though I personally don't believe swapping one addictive drug for a much more addictive Methadone (there are substitutes in the program instead of Methadone) I have seen positive results. Because Methadone MUST be taken in front of your Doctor/Pharmacist, they can't sell it. I do however sympathize with your husband, mine has major problems with his spine (after being thrown 100 meters from his motorcycle and his papiliion passenger landed on him. He was in a full body cast for 6 months and his doctor describes his spine as a "train wreck" and an operation could leave him permanently paralyzed. Health care workers often treat him like a second class citizen because of him being on Methadone, which HELPS with the pain, but he's learned to live with pain. I told him when he's asked what medication he's on, tell them he's been prescribed Pyseptone (Methadone in tablet form). Not that I believe people trying to get clean should be treated like second class citizens either. Good luck to your husband, and his pain and injury (because you can "see" back pain, a lot of people can shrug you off as exaggeration, especially some doctors until they see the x-rays, and then, don't understand REAL pain).
The Pain Clinic has increased my dosage of M.S. Contin (30mg) to Physeptone (Methadone) (15mg). Have they made a mistake in my dosage, which was supposed to be increased due to being on M.S.Contin for over a decade, and increased pain? I'm sure the doctor from the pain clinic prescribed 3x 10mg tablets, but my GP is certain 1 1/2 x 10 mg is the correct dose. Who is right? Thanks for your time.
