When To Increase Dosage For Migraine/weight Gain.

I have been on topamax for almost 3 years to prevent migraine. I am in my 50's, and on other medications, including deptran and atenolol. At first my side affects were quite severe, so I had to stay on the initial dose of 25mg at night for a few weeks. The main side effects were - word finding difficulties, dry mouth, taste loss, loss of food cravings, and alcohol intolerance, and some tingling and numbness in feet and hands at times. But my headaches stopped, they had been debilitating for a very long time, so I was going to persevere with the side effects. After about 18months or so, I have had breakthrough headache/migraine, and my weight has gone up. My cravings are back, for food and alcohol. Should I increase my night dosage, or not.

What has your doctor recommended?

It is never advisable to adjust the dosage of any medication on your own, you should consult your doctor and discuss the issue with them. Since this is also a prescription medication, you will need their approval and a new prescription to change the dosage, anyway.
