Im a first time user so while talking the first packet I was cramping and spotting on Week 3 of the packet. The spotting lasted five days. So my question is if this was my period, should i continue to take the remainder of pills that is from the first packet or throw those out and start my second packet?

The breakthrough bleeding, such as you experienced, can be a normal side effect, when you are new to taking hormonal contraceptives and is not considered the same as your actual menstrual cycle, so you should continue taking the tablets exactly as prescribed, without skipping any.
