What To Tell The Doctor So He Will Prescribe Me Fentanyl

Hello. I've recently had my doctor retire due to health reasons. And I can't seem to find a doctor that will write me a script for fentanyl. Can anyone help me please before I go in tomorrow to see yet another doctor to try and get a script for fentanyl. I've heard they are a massive improvement on oxycontin? So really really hoping someone out there can help with some sure fire symptoms or at least some advice to help. Thank you

I am not being judgmental but the manner in which you posed your question is very troubling. Seeking "sure fire symptoms", (your exact words) means that you are entering into the new relationship with the Doctor in a deceitful manner. Your prior doctor, who you said retired, should have an extensive file on their treating of you. If that file, which you are certainly entitled to have a copy of, shows a legitimate need for the Fentanyl patches, then any doctor who specializes in Pain Management should have no trouble working with you.

Needing "Sure Fire Symptoms", tells me that you most likely do not have a legitimate need to be on these top tier narcotics. Always be honest with your doctors, even when it is really difficult or emotionally unpleasant. The doctors are GENERALLY very in tune with identifying those who are "Doc Shopping".

During my time on high doses of narcotic pain meds, my prescribing physicians have changed 5 times due to their retiring, moving, my relocation and other factors. So it is quite possible to "find another doctor", but if you are doing things in your visits with new doctors, which they perceive as "drug seeking activity", or in any other way being deceitful, then you are going to get a lot of slammed doors in your face.

I speak with VAST experience in this area as I have been on Fentanyl patches since they first came out about two decades ago. I have had 12 major orthopedic surgeries including multiple level spinal fusions, titanium cages and synthetic bone in my spine at both the lumbar levels as well as the neck levels. I have endured anterior spinal fusion surgeries (they enter through your abdomen to fuse your spine which is a very big deal) on 2 different occasions which are about as major an orthopedic surgery as you can endure.

At one time I was on as much as 500 Micrograms every 48 hours of Fentanyl. Now I am down to 100mcg every 72 hrs and I continue to decline my meds. I was at the 500 mcg level for over 10 years, so I know these drugs and their consequences very intimately.

Prescription Narcotics, while a god send to those of us with SEVERE chronic pain, ultimately enslave you and will control your life. Using these meds tethers you to a prescribing physician and it also becomes the issue which you attempt to live your life around. I absolutely DESPISE being controlled which is why I am making every effort to change things in my life to one day, eliminate these or at the very least, minimize the need for the prescription narcotics.

I have been on all of the major pain meds at one time or another. Yes, the withdrawal is difficult, and frankly the Fentanyl withdrawals are the toughest I have ever experienced. I have stopped Oxycontin, Methadone, Opana and just about anything else you can name, and the Fentanyl clearly takes the longest to clear from your body.

My best advise to you is if you have a legitimate physical reason to be on the Fentanyl, then BE HONEST with your new docs you are going to. ALWAYS, no matter how difficult it may be, tell the TRUTH about how you and why you are using the drug. Anything else is just sending you down the road of heartache and suffering, trust me.

I am married to a drug addict so I have a tremendous amount of experience in this area which I really wish I didn't.

I find that Codeine is one of the best pain relievers on the market. I was on 50 mg of Codeine prn with Midrin (no longer made) for many years after having been on Percodan, and then Demerol which made me feel like crap. I would receive 50- 50 mg pills every 6 months for severe and debilitating migraines with Aura. I still get them but am on Fioricet with 30 mg of Codeine which barely take the pain away if you don't eat some sort of sugar with it which is hard if your barfing. Still it is better than no pain meds at all.
