What Is The Shelf Life Of Watson 385

I have had these for a while and don't know if they will hurt me, help me or just be ineffective.

These tablets contain 7.5mgs of Hydrocodone and 500mgs of Acetaminophen, this dosage is no longer being manufactured. This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation.

If they are in a bottle as dispensed by your pharmacy, then they expire one year from the date they were dispensed, because those bottles expose them to the elements that cause degradation.

They don't become harmful, but they do lose effective, so you should just dispose of them.

The DOD has done multiple studies on degradation & effectiveness of meds past the 1 year mfg. date. Most, when properly stored, were good 4 to 5 years past the date...some longer (as I recall 1 report stated a 10% loss of potency after 10 years for many). I can't say about how long yours are good for if in a plastic bottle nor do you say how old they are or where stored. Most antibiotics, nitro etc. degrade quickly & should be tossed at the date shown or by the "discard date" but many other meds have a long shelf life…some up to 15 years. It has saved the armed forces millions of $ / year & they test batches yearly. Do a search & see what the military has to say about the subject.

So on that note I personally would Not take the advice of the 1st response & toss them without trying them especially if you are in pain & they were prescribed to you for pain.
Rules have changed & doctors are not so free in giving out medication like this as they were even a year ago. Also, Watson is a good generic so I suspect they would provide some relief many years after they expired but that is just an opinion.
