What Is Stronger Dilaudid Or Oxycontin 40 Mg? (Page 8)

Updated

I have been on Dilaudid for over 2 years now and I can't seem to get off of it. I'm under a doctor's care, but anyone who is on it knows it's very addicting! I think like everybody else, it's no good if you take it orally. It's only effective other ways. I always run out of Dilaudid before my prescription is ready to refill and recently I filled a script for oxycontin 40 mg to see if they could replace my 4 mg Dilaudid. However, I took 1/2 of a 40 mg. and felt nothing. An hour later I took my 4 mg Dilaudid and it seems to have worked. But they are very short lived, that's why for chronic pain they like to give these stupid time release pain pills. How many mg.'s does equal the same amount of Dilaudid? I also would like to know if anyone has ever tapered off of Dilaudid? You get really sick when you try to get off of it, really intense vomiting and stomach pain that lasts forever. I have never stuck it out, I always end up in the emergency room. All they do is give me a pain shot of Dilaudid and a prescription for it as well and send me home. They think there is something wrong with something else. I have even tried to tell them but they either don't want to get involved because I'm under a Dr.'s care or they are just stupid. I hope someone has the best kicking advice, I'd rather be straight or just be one of those once in a while users (RIGHT)!!!

I was addicted to dilaudid for 5yrs for back sur. I took myself to detox & it was a horrible 12 days but it's been 3 yrs clean & I'm glad to have that monkey off my back. I do miss the pain relief though.

I have been on every pain relief medication known to man. Sooner or later, they all stop working, and the dosage gets higher, and higher. When you're on pain meds, your brain stops making the 3 chemicals your body needs to fight pain. It is a vicious cycle. The only thing that matters, is the next fix. I started going outside in the sunshine, working in my garden. The pain started going away, gradually. I weaned myself off the meds. What no one told me, is that sunshine creates endorphins. That was 5 years ago. I am not pain-free, but the level of pain is not as high a when I was on them. My medical condition has not improved, but my reliance on God has. As long as you stay on the meds, you will be a slave to them and your pain. It will rob you of any joy you might have had in this life.

He was taking Oxycontin the time released version of Oxycodone of course he didn't take it properly so it was like taking 20mg of oxycodone. But no one had answered IMO what's the equivalent of 4mg of Dilaudid. I unfortunately don't know. I came here going someone answered this question properly.

Yes the dilaudid will help. I'be been on Suboxone for 8 yrs. I'm also very familiar with ALL opiates...I have taken myself off Suboxone before and I at the time was on 24mg. Suboxone per day. I just tapered off with no other opiates (I did take klonopin at night) and had very mild symptoms. I did notice mentally it was trying at times but of course their are options out there to take care of that part too. I hope I was able to enlighten you a bit........Good Luck!!!!!

Well then you have never been on any drug for a long aount oftime not having gone through the mental and physical difficulty you get when trying to stop. If youve never been through it....easy way to say just do it!

Hi - U mentioned that there are options to take care of htat part as well, in reference to quitting opiates...for good - what would they be? how does someone get used to functioning in real life as they would ON opiates w/o opiates? I feel my dependence is more out of fear of recurring pain, its a dependence of needing to have them around ' just in case' and then knowing if i have things to do that are stressful - i have the option of knowing i can take a pain killer to give myself a boost - does that sound likely? ive never myself take dilaulid, only given it in a hospital setting and i vomited both times, once when my appendix was bursting , another time for a c-section, other than that ive always take vicoden, darvocet, sometimes percocet which i feel is the really addictive one - also would 4 mg of dilaulid cuase vomiting, as no other painkiller does - maybe i was just in SO much pain and they gave me the painpill and , well it was just too late and i got sick - so im kind of leary of anyone dispensing these for my two herniated discs and knees with no cartilege

@ kilt, how can you say "just suck it up" when you've never been addicted to experienced withdrawals? And if you have been through withdrawals than you are/were addicted, Withdrawals is the reason a lot of people relapse when trying to quit because its a very painful experience...so educate yourself before you go and tell someone something that you don't know what your talking about

my dr. informed me the DEA will no longer allow him to prescribe roxicodone 30mg and 15. he can only prescribe 30mg roxi mg for breakthrough pain while taking opana ER40mg. / not the15mg also which my dr believes I need 45mgs of roxi for break through pain. The DEA doesn';t have an md!! I wonder if they would allow 30mg roxi with dilaudid 8mg for break through pain. Two different meds so he wouldn't be prescribing two of same meds. My husband and I are both VERY sick with MS,chronic kidney stones due to medgilary sponge kidney plus numerous HNP throughout entire spine,bi-lat CTS rt rotator cuff tear and bi-lat torn meniscus. He calls me an orthopaedic mess loaded with kidney stones!!! My Hubby has progressing MS besides the HNP in LS spine. He's 48 and walks like a 90yr old man. These meds help us both. It's a shame that the ins co and DEA have more say than the DR as far as what he can and can not prescribe. He is a reputable DR for over 35yrs!!! Whatdo you think chances are of getting opana ER, roxicodone 30mg and dilaudid8mg for breakthrough pain?

It will just start 2 new addictions. Daiaudid is a narcotic med two. Ive been told it is very strong. Most Dr use suboxen to get a person off pain meds then they r suppose to weng u off suboxen. Not put u on two more meds

in my experience, a 40mg OC is waaay stronger than a 4 mg dilaudid.
For me, I think it's because Dilaudid is morphine, not oxycodone.
Morphine never relieves my pain, but oxycodone does.
My Dr. says everybody is different though, so this is just an opinion based on my personal experience.
Morphine sucks, for me.

# 8 GLAD 2balive is the only post I have seen that makes sense. Unless you have BEEN THERE...you have no clue what all of these implications are about. HONESTY: "A friend of mine"......"For my Pain regimen" .... "I was in a bad car wreck"....OK 50% of you people, I have just "outed you". Just be straight with YOUR problem and pay no attention to these fanciful story's about "taking every opiate known to man and I can't get addicted"......BS. TOTAL BS. Deal with the pain, take the old time faithfuls ASPIRIN, TYLENOL...or even Darvocette N-100. It I [and many many others] had known what this crap leads too, we would never have considered taking it. Getting off is the hardest thing you will ever do in your life, and if you don't believe me.....try it. You may have to learn the hard way like me

I was in a similar experience coming off of Oxycontin40mg 4 times a day to Hydromorphone. Now I take 12 mg Hydromorphone contain three times a day with 2 mg Hydro for breakthrough. For the first three weeks i was in Terrible pain and it turns out I was detoxing from the oxy. Three weeks later and I'm feeling better. Hope this helps. Dillie's are 2.67 times stronger that Oxycodone but for me I won't go back. Be well!

I was on subs for 5 months and just got off em... The best way is to go down to 1 mg for a week then totally come off.. Withdrawals lasted 3 days and were really mild only one bad day but I was busy

For the dilaudid question about tapering off it. I would first like to comment about your testing of oxycontin. STAY AWAY from the oxy. I was on very high doses of both (not concurrently), trust me when I say that it is a lot easier to quit dilaudid. If you thought dilaudid was an awful withdrawal, multiply that illness by 10. Symptoms from oxycontin withdrawals also take much longer before you start to feel better. Some symptoms such as insomnia can last up to 2 years, most other symptoms, generally less than 6 months.

Just my experience. I'm sure it varies from person to person........Dan

Its a cake walk...if you can get your doc to Rx you with a small amout of methadone...start at 5mg a day...then taper a week later to 2.5, and then a week later 1.25. In a matter of a month you will be legit...only if you can keep it clean brother...good luck

Either you weren't on these medications long enough or you were born a freak of nature, I mean"special". You should be excited to be completely different from absolutely everyone else on the planet, to have such control over your brain is so amazing. I'm sure the correct authorities would want to "study" you. Maybe, eventualy you might , in time hold a clue to part of a problem that has plaged mankind for thousands of years. You might change the world and help billions of people!

Tis is for Recipe..If you are from the US then you wouldnt be giving this terrible and ery wrong advice. It is illegal for a doctor in private practice to presribe methadone to an addict for a purpose other than pain, and I dont know any doctor wgo would risk his/her right to practice medicine to do so..Please dont be giving out false hope and information for people who really need our help

This is an old post I see but I can only pray you will read my response. As someone who is a nurse and a sufferer of chronic pain but has the audacity to judge someone else''s pain and use of pain meds (except of course your own) should not be a nurse at all. I am terminal, please tell me how much you think my bone mets hurt? What meds would you allow and do you really think my doctor is going to be audited for treating terminal bone cancer pain? My best friend is a nurse and she is hanging out with me while my husband is away and she is telling me to tell you that you forgot something from nursing school if you are indeed a nurse, she said "the pain is what the patient says it is" and it's the 5th vital sign and she hates working with addicted burnouts like yourself. Yes she read your post and is shocked and said that if you are really a nurse you must treat you CPPs terribly, likely steal their meds and clearly have a serious habit of your own going. I am terminal and you take higher meds than I do, please explain? No one should judge another person's pain, NO ONE, if you haven't found another job or been let go by now, please do all of these people that are suffering or courageous enough to talk about their pain or addiction without your two cents.
