What Drugs Can Replace Lisinopril?
(Newest replies first)

Updated

I have taken lisinolpril for over a year and my BP just keeps going up and down. I have learned there are many items we drink and eat that interact with lisinolpril. Like vitamins, sleeping aides like melatonin, potassium (potassium is in a lot of vitamins and other drinks and foods) apple cider vinegar, the list is long, read your labels. I want to ask my Dr to change me to something else, can anyone advise?

HI Vernon, THANK YOU for your info. I do take my BP all different times of the day. When my face gets red and burning, I KNOW I have messed up. When I take BP pill and BP is going up instead of down, I am CONFUSSED until I read some labels, when I was drinking some vitamin drink that had 200 mgs of potassium. Potassium and lisinolpril don't work together. OR so I have read... My BP has been 167/91 when I wake up. A few nights ago, I had a little rum in diet Canada Dry, lime juice... BP went up to 167/104.... I was scared over that. I probably put 1/2 ounce of rum in that drink. I KNOW I cant drink much and that is OK... I JUST NEVER ever dreamed a small amount of run would do that to me. I felt very bad. I have that dry hacking cough all the time.... IF I take 40 mgs of lisinolpril every day, I am just a slug all day. Yesterday, I dropped the lisinolpril to 30 mgs and was very careful what I ate. I seemed to be ok and felt much better today...

Vernon, with you being a BP and heart patient, will share what you take and how careful you are with food. I almost never eat out anywhere, due to all the salt in food on the street will do to you. I KNOW we are all different.. HOWEVER, it appears that many folks take lisinolpril. I have tried 4 different drugs and they all made me very sick but lisinopril. It seems NOW, I am having more side effects and I KNOW I need to find another drug. The reason, I am asking others is due to my dr doesn't seem to have much interest in me or what is wrong with me... just gives me another pill. I have taken amophpine. Larostan, and I forgot one.. ALL advice is welcome.

Hello Charlotte! How are you? How extreme are the fluctuations that you've been experiencing?

Your blood pressure will never hit one steady reading and stay there, it will always fluctuate, depending on the time of day you check, what you eat, what you drink, your activity levels, and etc. For example, when you are more active, it should naturally increase, when you are idle it should go down. It should be lower while you are sleeping, then go up more when you wake up and start moving about. Heat will make it go down, while cold causes it to rise, according to NIH studies. Some of these facts may vary from person to person, since we are all different, but for the most part they hold true.

How often are you checking it? Are you checking at consistent times of day?

Being a heart and blood pressure patient myself, I have freaked myself out over fluctuations in the past, only to discover that I had A LOT to learn about how it really works.
