What Can I Use Around My Mouth Now That It Is Swollen

I have to shave due to hormones around my mouth and I am getting razor sores after a couple of days go by. What can I use? I've tried to put on creams and tea tree oil and now it's swollen. What can I do?

Are you sure the sores are due to razor burn? It's very unusual for it to take several days to occur, it usually happens within hours, 24 hours at most.

Have you ever gotten cold sores or fever blisters? If so, your shaving could be irritating the skin and causing them to flare up. Especially considering the swelling, it would be best to have your doctor check it out to be sure. If you're getting blisters and sores, then this might be due to a herpes simplex virus.

Razor burn usually consists of red, irritated and sore bumps, not swelling and actual sores, as explained by the NIH.

Are you on any medications?

There are other options you could try, instead of shaving, such as bleaching the hair, a sensitive skin formulation of Nair or Neet, or something that balances your hormones, if your doctor approves.

However, if you're going to continue shaving, always make sure to use a good, sharp razor, not one that's been dulled by also shaving your legs and arm pits. Keep a separate one for your face, there's good reason men hate when a woman uses their facial razor on her legs or arm pits, it really dulls the blades.

Additionally, you may want to look into a good after shave treatment. My husband uses one from Nivea and it's a very gender neutral scent. He uses the original sensitive skin one.

Do you use a shaving cream? If so, I'd suggest making sure you get one for sensitive skin and don't use just regular old soap.
