What Are Good Manufacturers Of Sertraline That People Find Effective (Page 2)
(Newest replies first)

Updated

I've been taking Zoloft then Sertraline for twenty years and I'm SURE the brand is not the same. For the past few years, I've become very depressed again, but never thought it might be because of a lousy manufacturer (as happened with Lorazepam when Watson was bought by lousy Actavis). Does anyone know a good, effective BRAND of Sertraline that has helped them a lot with depression?

I order from Costco but can't figure out the brand on the label - will call tomorrow and ask. What a jungle this is becoming. Just not right.

Re: Ruth (# 9) Expand Referenced Message

My pharmacy no longer can get the sertraline I've been taking, I have called all my local pharmacy none carry it either, so I asked if I can switch back to Zoloft $629 for a month supply, needless to say I had to take the genetic brand Walmart had, I'm so scared to take these, as I know not all sertraline is the same with different manufacturers.

I would love to take Zoloft. I was very happy on it, but now it costs 900.00 for a 3 month supply. It is the only thing that works for me. SERTRALINE DOES NOT WORK. Still depressed and not happy at all. Very cranky.

I got the real stuff from Canada. In the US, Zoloft 100 mgs. cost ten bucks a pill. I just started taking the foreign-produced Zoloft and there is definitely a positive effect. I don't know how well it works but the alternative I chose not to even though it's free from my insurance/pharmacy. I heard that Walgreens had a generic that was produced by Greenstone and it worked good. Now my Walgreens does not carry Greenstone Sertraline anymore and the replacement does not really work. The reason why Greenstone worked when others don't, Greenstone is a subsidiary of Pfizer. No wonder it worked.

I too have been on Zoloft for over 30 years and now there isn't an insurance policy in all of Medicare that will cover it. I am freaking out because I have tried sertraline and had a terrible relapse with depression. I'm sticking with my job right now just to get the health insurance for the medicine. If you know of any other brands besides lupine that might be good please be so kind to post. And thanks to all of you who contributed.
The brand I tried was Greenway.

I have had drowsiness & insomnia w/ the Aurobindo generic sertraline, but did not have that problem (as well as other miserable side effects like migraines & nausea) while taking the same dosage from Greenstone. I have reported my experience to the FDA. Yes, it was THAT bad. After 4 days of sleepy, but no sleep, I became quite agitated & was beginning to be schizophrenic.

Thanks for info re Lupin. Cannot go off Sertraline/Zoloft as I couldn't handle the pretty awful withdrawal symptoms. Going to stick with either Zoloft (got discount or free (?) card from Pfizer or tr Lupin.

Thank you. I have contacted Pfizer and they sent me something including a card. Just been so tired with reverse sleep haven't had a chance to look it over. I wonder if anyone here has had insomnia due to Zoloft or Sertraline?

Have you considered going back to Zoloft? For me it's smoother than any sertraline I've tried, though it does have it's own side effects. Every manufacturer I've ordered from has resulted in different side effects. I think some of it has to do with how your brain is wired, or how it rewires to adapt to the types of sertraline you've taken.

There are several ways to reduce the cost of name brand Zoloft. If you don't have insurance you can get a discount card. If you're on 50mg have your doctor write a prescription for 100mg with instructions to take 1/2 a day. If you do 2 of these things you'll be surprised how low the cost is.

Oh you're so nice to offer help. I'll try Lupin if this new one (Green Mountain) doesn't work. I was on Northstar and it seemed like a dud (200mg, eeeks). I'm going to check my very old records, see if I can find the original brand I started on in 1993.

It's true after taking Sertraline for so many years, sometimes efficacy wears down. HOWEVER, I am never ever ever going to go through getting off an antidepressant and going through the hideous trial and error to find another one. This works, maybe not as well, but it works.

I'll ask my shrink re adding something to boost the Sertraline. Many many thanks.

Hello, Denise! How are you?

After being on it for 20 years, it is also possible that your body had just become tolerant to it and it no longer works as well for you. It is completely normal for that to happen and it usually will eventually happen with anything from blood pressure medications to blood thinners.

As to figuring out the who manufactures it, I can look it up, if you can post back with a description of the tablets and the markings on them.

The FDA lists the side effects of Sertaline/Zoloft as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth and weight gain.

I looked to see which one my roommate takes for his depression and it's manufactured by Lupin Pharmaceuticals.

Is there anything else I can help with?
