Can certain over the counter medications or prescription medications cause a false positive for Methamphetamine in a blood test?

I tried replying but my post is under review but bottom line on what I said is if you haven't abused your meds an haven't did any meth or did anything else other than what you was prescribed an the urine test comes back positive for meth and you know. for a fact its wrong then request a hair test if you are truly innocent then the hair test will be your best friend and bail you out of this situation easily but if you are guilty and you know you did something you wasn't supposed too do than the hair test can be your worst enemy an you would be far better off just dodging the hair test and just face the music head on cuz the hair test can tell them everything you have did in the last 90days an how often you did them so if your guilty u don't wanna give them that kind of insight you would more than likely get cut off from ur meds immediately but if u got nothing to hide than the hair test is the ticket an also tell them everything u have took or taking but hopefully ur urine test will come back fine an u won't have to consider a hair test not trying to scare u jus telln ya like it is hope this helps best of luck an god bless

sorry to hear the situation your in and the only suggestion I could give ya is try too find a new doctor that might understand your situation better and I wouldn't recommend taking anything illegally for your pain no matter who it comes from because over half those law people are heartless and could careless about your situation and then if you get caught with something your not prescribed it will cost a bunch of money turn into a big deal and you will have a mark on your record and will be cut off from your meds or worse so like I said your best bet is too try an find a new doctor an explain what's going on

To be honest I'm not really sure what OTC or prescription meds that would cause a false positive for methadone if you have gotten a false positive for that specific drug then I would do a lil research on the subject an see where it leads but if I'm not mistaken I think methadone would fall under the opiate category in a urine test for instance if you was to take a Percocet or a vicodin the Percocet is oxycodon and the vicodin is hydrocodone the urine test wouldn't be able to determine which one you took all it would. know is opiates was in your system now a more advanced test like blood and hair is able to distinguish the two but if you have never taken methadone and got a false positive for it then chances are the test you took was a regular urine test if thats the case then you probably need to look more into "what causes false positives for opiates" and see if anything simple that you have eaten or taken sticks out at you there is simple things like poppy seeds off a muffin or bagel that can give you a false positive for opiates

Don't think anyone's test for methodone unless it's been in your system at some point... there's pot, amphetamines, methamphetamine, opiates, cocaine... that's the mail 5 test in drs office. some do 7/11... it depends what your doctors looking for.. and if they do it in Dr office or lab would make difference... I've been tested for like 10-15 years and never tested for methodone...

buddy idk what post or who you was replying too all I know is i got a email with your post saying something bout diphenhydramine well if you was replying to me you have obviously misread my post because I don't recall ever saying diphenhydramine contained meth or any other amphetamine I might of ask a question does diphenhydramine give a "FALSE POSITIVE" for meth but that's not saying it contains meth doctor john

The diphenhydramine may give a false positive on some "instant" tests, but when we further analyze the specimen using mass spectophtometry or LC/MS/MS/MS, there is no way to have diphenydramine be a false poisitve test, it would be negative..

yea I have no idea where he got that from because you can look back through all my post and you won't find me saying diphenhydramine contains meth anywhere I guess he was trying to reply to somebody else an accidentally replied to me thats the only thing I can figure and sorry to hear about ur situation sounds like everyday is a mighty challenge for you an ur only 32yrs old I hope you find the help your looking for and things get better for you I will keep u in my prayers

hey Lilly did you say you take amphetamine salts? well any amphetamine can trigger a positive for meth like the dietary supplement adepex now I'm no big expert but when you mentioned you took amphetamines that kina stuck out like a sore thumb and what all are you being accused taking? is it just meth alone nothing else? if it is than you can have a blood analysis test specifically for meth the test is cheaper an will cost you around 115$/130$ but if they are testing for more than 1 illegal drug than yes that blood analysis will cost around 500$ but if I was you an knew I was 100% innocent I'd request a hair analysis it runs 75$/100% some states might cost a lil more and it testes for the 5 major illegal street drugs including meth an all amphetamines now the amphetamines you was prescribed will show up under amphetamines but you can clear yourself with proof of a prescription an the test will be able to distinguish meth from your prescription meds and that test goes back 90days vs the blood test only going back a few days so I think they would be more than satisfied with a hair test rather than blood test an it will save you $

How is the test being performed? Immunoassay is not a definitive test, nor is the card tests. The only definitive test for any drug is GC/MS, LC/MS/MS and it is an expensive but well worth it test. It is the gold standard!!

I had a hair analysis and I'm pretty sure it had all the things you listed I'd have to actually look at the test again to tell you exactly what it said but it had all that confirmation stuff at the end an I didn't think it was too expensive I paid like 75$ for the panel 5 drug test they had one for 100$ but I didn't need that one all I know is the test I did was 100% accurate everything came back exactly like it was supposed too

Methadone is not an opiate. It will not show up as a positive on an opiate screen. It has to be tested by itself.

@ please help I'm sorry too hear of your situation sounds like you have been dealt a devastating blow for your hair test to come back with that high of levels of meth there is a possibilities that you are clean an the test says you're dirty an that is pretty much "human error" unfortunately somebody might of mishandled your test results at the lab an got you mixed up with somebody else it's a rare thing to have happen but it does happen my blood test an hair test came back 100% accurate the urine test said I was dirty an the hair cleared me immediately I'm not even on probation anymore all I can go by is my own experience the hair test an blood test I know for a FACT was accurate an when I sent my hair off that thought was at the back of my mind "boy I sure hope they don't get me mixed up with somebody else I'll be doomed for sure an there will be no explaining it" but luckily for me everything ran smooth an make sure they ran a confirmation test on your hair that's how they distinguish one drug from another or else the hair might come up false positive like the urine I'm no doctor or big expert but what I would try to do if I was you is see if any of your friends knows a toxicologist an if they do see if they can put you in touch with him/her an maybe he or she can break it down to you about why your test said what it said an see if there's another route you can take to prove your innocence if not you probably might have to get off ur meds an take another hair test best of luck too ya hope things turn out fine

Get off ranititine it caused my false positive. I cannot gwt out of bed even with painkillers some days.... GOOGLE AND FIND AS MUCH PEOPLE YOU CAN FIND! My pharmacist actually helped cleared my name... I now Google each and every new pill he tries to give me asking with this cause false positive in urine tox

I agree totally! The lab must have messed up the specimen. If you are indeed not on meth, then it should have confirmed negative. Phentermine shares one ion with Amphetamine, but this should easily have been ruled out by LC/'MS/MS/MS.

To ALL: Methamphetamine and/or Amphetamine in any test MUST BE CONFIRMED by either GC/MS or LC/MS/MS, it cannot just be and EIA or ELISA test! Please make them prove your guilt or innocence. I do this daily for Las Vegas.

It is imperative that you have your test CONFIRMED by a reputable lab using LC/MS/MS or GC/MS, Anything else is not confirmatory, and will not stand in a court of law.

My husband told not only the doctor performing the test but the actual lab doctor of all medications prescribed and OTC and the doctors wouldn't even listen to the OTC meds....so he was fired... What if anything can I do about this

hey Casey sorry to hear about your situation the first thing I would do if I were you is make complete list of everything you have taken prescription an over the counter meds if it makes it easier you can write all over the counter meds on one sheet of paper an write all prescription meds you have taken or currently taken on a separate sheet of paper do a complete research on every single med you have taken then you should be able to identify the med that produced the false positive for meth when you do have the page with all the info explaining that it causes false positives for meth and show it to your would be employer hopefully he or she will give you the benefit of the doubt an let you take another test to prove your innocence an also be prepared first before you approach them make sure you know for a fact the drug causing the false positive is no longer in your system an if they agree to another test you will be ready now I can't guarantee that even though you prove your innocence that you will get the job that's really up to them but look at it on the bright side you haven't had your kids taken away an your freedom hangs in the balance like so many others have experienced so good luck hope it all works out for the best

Sorry to hear this Casey.. I had the false positive from Ranititine.. If you are absolutely sure you haven't done any kind of drugs (meth,coke) then go into dr and ask for Hair tests... they can pin point the difference between the prescription and street stuff.. But only if your sure.. cause the hair test can clear you.. :) good luck
