Can certain over the counter medications or prescription medications cause a false positive for Methamphetamine in a blood test?

I have been thru the same thing but with cps. I found out that ranta dine caused mine. Look it up. There is a lot of information online about it. Hope it helps.

I need accurate and informative credible sources to document this information.

October - February I have had positive drug screens for Amphetamines (I take Dextroamphetamine Salts and Methadone) and NO METHAMPHETAMINE.

I suffer from asthma and use Pro Air albuterol and take Sudafed occassionally and sleeping pills (benedryl)

I know for a fact these are false positives yet CPS is trying to terminate my parental rights to my 6 year old son who was removed from my home with zero evidence (when I was testing negative)

Last I heard, Phentermine is illegal. But, in reading your post, what's the purpose of it?

I am on fed probation and was pregnant. I do not take methamphetamine and never have. I consistently failed on the screening (cup) BUT the lab it is sent to can differentiate and if ur friend doesn't know it is his right to demand it be sent to a lab. Prilosec can make u fail for thc and in my experience the lab could not tell the difference. I hope this helps ur friend.

Novacaine does not have ANY epinephrine in it and would never cause a false positive for methamphetamine, not even for cocaine, which is a relative of the novacaine. Drug tests don't test for the actual drug, they test for what the drugs metabolize into, or the test results are designed to read for chemicals the body only produces when such drugs are used as the result of the use of them. Methamphetamine doesn't metabolize into pseudoephedrine, it derives from ephedra but needs to be made with many processes, first step is to process and isolate pure ephedra from pseudo with acids, then it needs to be processed with red phosphorus to create methamphetamine. It's a dangerous drug that gets very few false positives, however other amphetamines, such as ritalin and other ADD and ADHD drugs may have a better chance of causing these metabolites than something like novacaine. Think about it, when was the last time anybody has ever tested positive for methamphetamine when they went to the dentist?

I'm currently on pain management and I went to my dr. Visit and I was told I tested positive for methamphetamine! I'm on 15mg xr adderall, 12mg. X2 a day, I take over the counter benzadrex and I use a vicks inhaler constantly, I'm a hairstylist and allergic to dogs. The last owner of my car road her dig around everyday and I havent had chance to deap clean the car so my sinuses are terrible. I'm adhd and ocd, but the nurse treated me as if I was guilty..And my husband goes to the same dr. And is on the same meds, his shows as amphetamines.

The nurse practitioner said that the levels reveal that I must have been on it the day I tested on my last months test, I honestly haven't taken any methamphetamine nor was I around it. But I use the benzadrex about 6 more times a day than recommend use. I told them exactly that, they are sending an email back to the lab to retest or break it down? They are supposed to call me in 5 to 7 days..Im also in a custody battle and I test for dhr and they send my test to a lab and I have never had a problem with my drug screens through their lab.

If this nurse had a 15 min conversation with me supposedly on methamphetamine when the visit took place...How could she have not made some kind of note of odd behavior? In my experience of people on methamphetamine they show sure tell signs!! I'm devastated! I don't know what to do, I left the dr.s office completely humiliated and felt like I was discriminated against by this certain nurse its like every since i've seen her 3x its been something and she acts like she could care less about anything going on in my life, unlike the other nurse I had seen 2x.. I'm lost ive prayed for god to reveal the truth, and are the labs able to break down the ingredients because there are so many harmful things in methamphetamine? Wouldn't they be able to tell the difference?

aspirin, omeprazole, vicks inhaler, zantac 150mg. The rantidine causes it; i failed for methamphetamine and i have most certainly not used methamphetamine... I also take benzadrex and trazodone will do it as well... That's bs too cause im in a custody battle. I wouldn't risk that for nothing. My dr.'s office said i failed for methamphetamine. I'm on adderall and i made them send it back for further testing! I'm even gonna offer a hair follicle test! Good luck to you. I hope this helps!

Well you should believe him, because I'm on probation and just 5 days ago my probation officer drug tested me with a urine drug screen & I am 8 and a half months pregnant and the only medicine I take is Tums for my my heartburn, and I dropped dirty for both methamphetamine and amphetamines. Tums is the only medicine I have taken during my pregnancy; so yes I should believe him because I'm also a living proof that Tums will show up positive for both!

Zantac does show up as Methamphetamine on a drug test, I work at a Family practice and we do regular drug screens on patients, and Zantac shows up on the drug screen. Just let the lab know all meds you take.

The amitriptyline almost killed me. I was falling all over the place losing my balance and everything!!! Literally falling on my face in the middle of the night. I was scared but was hoping it would get better and that maybe the effects were just too strong at first but nope it got much worse. That stuff is HORRIBLE and I wouldn't recommend it to ANYONE!

It's very hard to take methamphetamine and lie about it due to the fact if used for a long period of time their features are the telltale sign. Such things as having a sunken in face, tooth rot, weight loss, are just a few. Before I would accuse someone of lying I would take a look at some of the physical changes that cannot be hidden before I made any opinion. I myself use to take methamphetamine once a week with a friend, it was kind of a ritual I guess. But I have been clean for over a year and just took a hair follicle test and tested positive for methamphetamine?? I take Wellbutrin, Proventil Asthma inhaler, along with the inhaler that has a steroid in it, Ibuprofen, Adderall, and Metoprolol for high blood pressure. Anyone of these on the research I'm doing can test positive for methamphetamine. Well, I'm not sure of the Metoprolol, but being a high blood pressure medication which is one thing I've heard that can cause a false positive. The testing Agency can do one of two types of testing for methamphetamine. It's sad but just for monetary reasons alone, these agencies ruin peoples lives just to gain a larger profit margin. if the lab chooses to do the cheaper of the two from which is what happened to me while I had to submit to a 12 panel hair follicle test. They rarely use the one that can go deeper and determine the medications that you take that may be causing a test to show up as methamphetamine? I was just taking my last test out of 4 separate tests 90 days apart so I could have my kids on the days our divorce decree says.. And there was no way in hell I would chance doing methamphetamine on my last test that I had to pay $400.00 dollars for each test. Then, sure enough, it showed positive for methamphetamine. I haven't even seen methamphetamine in over a year. Now I'm back at square one having to do the 4 tests all over again. Sounds like they know how to make money because the court specifically states I have to go to a certain testing agency.

I do urine drug screens all day and I hear everything from "someone must have put meth in my milk", to "someone spiked my cigarette". Yeah no! A screening has the potential to give you a false positive for just about anything, however; once confirmation testing has been ordered the process used breaks the drug down to the smallest molecule, basically the finger print to the molecule. Labs are pretty darn sophisticated. Nowadays they have the ability to distinguish Sudafed from Methamphetamines. Wellbutrin, like so many claim, is why methamphetamines is in their urine drug screen is just the criminal mind working over time. Sorry, but if the lab detects meth after confirmation has been done, you did meth!
