Can certain over the counter medications or prescription medications cause a false positive for Methamphetamine in a blood test?

My doctor does not do confirmation tests! And will not even recognize a test from an independent lab.

Stacey,
You can fight this in court. The test the doctor did in his office is only a SCREEN and can cause many false positives. Without confirmation it is not valid to diagnose from.
If you lived in Nevada, I would say come to my lab and I will confirm it the right way, otherwise, see if you have Quest or someone who will do it without an Prescription from the doctor. I would seek legal counsel on this one.

Yes I had a severe sinus infection and taking sudafed and Advil along with 500 mg of antibiotics. Was randomly picked for a urine test and failed for THC and amphetamine and haven't done drugs in 10 yrs I don't understand no gonna be out a job cause of being sick

Your Sudafed probably caused the false positive on the amphetamine, and perhaps some other preparation caused the other false positive. BUT these tests were obviously NOT confimed, and only done with a cup, card, or EIA instrument. In order to say you are positive the tests MUST BE CONFIRMED by GC/MS or LC/MS/MS. You cannot be fired for a screening test. It is illegal.

There definitely were no follow up tests. I was tested by my pain management Dr. He dismissed me from the practice with a letter, 2 weeks after the test. (saliva)

GC/MS is Gas Chromatography/Mass Spectrophotometry. LC/MS/MS is Liquid Chromatography Dual Mass Spectrophotometry. Both are conclusive and the GOLD STANDARD for Courts and pure analysis of any and all compounds/ drugs, metabolites, etc.
My lab takes walk ins but you would have to be in Nevada. What State are you in?
You should ask your pain doctor for a copy of the analysis of your test and how the testing was done. You could then contact that lab and ask them to confirm it (but I doubt they have the specimen). Now, if that doctor was doing point of care testing, doing it in the office, with a "strip" type or card test, he was only doing a screen which CANNOT be considered a positive test. They give many false negative and false positive results. That is why confirmation by GC or LC/MS is a MUST. Good luck.

Stacey, Saliva is a poor test. It shows only recent use, and it just isn't a good one. Urine or blood would have been better. Hair can also be done, but that goes back for 90 days use.

I'm in Dallas , Tx. I would gladly pay the cost up front for a hair test. But my 90 days will be up the 2nd week of April.

Benadryl should not cause a false positive for Amphetamine.

There is no drug other than methamphetamines that will show up on a hair follicle positive for methamphetamines. This is a common excuse for those who want to fool themselves that they have serious drug issues.
