What Is The Best Generic Version Of Wellbutrin Xl - Watson Or Anchen? (Page 22)
UpdatedMy doctor will not prescribe generic Wellbutrin XL but my insurance will no longer pay for brand name drugs. I will have to pay about $7000 per yer for what I am taking now (3 of the 150mg Wellbutrin XL brand name per day). I am reading that the problem with the generics is the time release mechanism and not the drug itself and that some are better than others. Anybody have experience with the generics made by Watson and /or Anchen?
Watson worked for me as well, but then the FDA said it was not what it should have been and took it off the market! I then went to Anchen which also, luckily for me, seemed to work fine. Now, Par purchased Anchen so the name on the vial is Par but the pill looks exactly the same as the Anchen so I know it is the same. Hopefully, you will find that the Anchen/Par works for you. I wish you luck.
I tried all the generics - of them, the Actavis works the best for me. For me, the Mylan and Par were like taking nothing - my family noticed the difference & was asking me if I'd forgotten to take it ... When you speak with your pharmacist, try taking the bottle of the generic that worked for You, and request that it be refilled with THE SAME NDC NUMBER. My pharmacy gets it in special for me, even though their supplier normally sends "whatever" generic - I'm lucky in that my pharmacist humors me in this. She's been with me through all the different generic trials tho. Good luck.
was told by Valeant to call direct success pharmacy. Direct Success Pharmacy sends your patient WELLBUTRIN XL® within 5-10 business days after prescription has been submitted. What Can Your Patients Expect To Pay Out Of Pocket?
Prescription Coverage - Maximum Anticipated Out of Pocket (per 30 day supply)
If insured with commercial prescription plan: $0
If insured with Medicare prescription plan: $50
If insured with Medicare but don't have prescription coverage: $50
if you don't have prescription insurance: $50
If insurance doesn't cover brand name WELLBUTRIN XL®: $50
Watson (now actavis) does not work for me
Well, the Canadian pharmacy was very apologetic about sending me the Wellbutrin from Turkey. It certainly sounded like they've heard this complaint before and they almost instantaneously agreed to send me the real deal made in Canada, free of charge. Now I have four months worth of Turkish Wellbutrin sitting here. I will never take the generic again. I have tried several kinds and the side effects have always been unbearable. I have my fingers crossed that this version of the brand name Wellbutrin will help me as much as the GSK version. It's roughly $60 a month out of pocket but if it works I'll gladly skip buying shoes for a year ;) See, I made a joke and I decided to give therapy another try today....maybe it's working after all!
Thanks. When they gave me the Par, they said "we have to take whatever the supplier gives us", but that was just the person checking me out. I'm going to either ask the pharmacist to order Watson which seemed to be working or call some other pharmacies to see what they have.
Thanks. Maybe I will try the Par before I go on a hunt for Watson. I thought they only took the 300mg off of the market. I take 450 mg (3x150mg), and I thought that the 150 was still available. This is all so confusing. It is bad enough that none of us can afford the brand and most insurance companies won't cover it - the drug companies and the FDA make it even more difficult to figure things out. When something affects your mood, it affects everyone around you. It isn't fun "trying" things to see if you feel the same as you should/would with the brand. There is no telling how much damage I will do if it doesn't work.
If it is truly the brand, it should work. The first time I took it, it was as if I had woken up for the first time in about 2 years. Good Luck with it. Wish I could afford it.
I took the SR before the XL came out. and the regular 3 x a day Wellbutrin before that. Since both SR and XL are time released (in some form), I really don't understand what the difference is. If you can afford it, I would try it because I would LOVE to get the brand back. Since the generic is out there, the only way the real brand is still selling at the horrific prices is because the generic doesn't really work. The FDA should really do a better job of controlling this and consult with doctors who have actual patients - not just the pharmaceutical companies who test their own generics. That should be against the law - how is it a real, objective test if you are conducting it on your own product?
I believe you are correct in that only the 300 mg Watson was taken off the market; perhaps you could get your pdoc to write the script for 150 mg tablets, "one to be taken three times per day." Then find a pharmacy that can get you the Watson 150s. Ins co might give you a little trouble but still should be much, much cheaper than name brand even if you have to pay a little more for the three 150s rather than one 300 and one 150.

150 or 300, manufactured by valeant sold by direct success....BRAND NAME
While I was working, I was able to pay the exorbitant price of WellbrutrinXL. Now I'm retired and a 90 day supply was going to cost $850. I can't afford that. In the past, I tried the generic, not sure who manufactured it, and it didn't work for me .. AT ALL. Just this morning, I googled WellbutrinXL and stumbled across the manufacturer's site http://wellbutrinxl.com . There is a special deal with them and I was able to get a 90 day supply for $150 as a cash paying customer, no insurance. I make no guarantees about this site. I just stumbled upon and decided to give it a try. You will have to evaluate it for yourself.
Hi Everybody! New interesting news update. I subscribed to the FDA newsletter to receive any reports about bad drugs being taken off the market (that's how I found out about Watson back in October) and new drugs that have been approved coming onto the market. There's a new generic Bupropion Hydrochloride 300 XL that was approved on January 17th made by Zydus Pharms Drug Co. I hope maybe it will be good. Didnt say when it will become available. Just a heads up for everyone.
Just to update - I received my Wellbutrin XL via the Direct Success Pharmacy using program provided by the wellbutrinxl.com website. The container states the following:
1. Direct Success Pharmacy, Farmingdale NJ 07727/8774043338
2. Total Health Pharmacy, Palm Bay FL 32907/8008121310
3. Wellburtin XL Oral Table ER 150MG
4. Mfg: Valeant
I got a 3 month supply for $150. I'm a firm believer that if it seems too good to be true... But everything looks to me to be on the up-and-up. $150 versus $850.. No generic required, direct from the manufacturer! Amazing!
From both my personal experience using brand Wellbutrin XL, Anchen Buproprion XL, Actavis Buproprion XL, TEVA Budeprion XL, and years of internet research, I have found the following to be the case: There is not a single manufacturer of Buproprion that is not a lifesaver for someone and there is not a single manufacturer of Buproprion that is not a disaster for someone else. TEVA Budeprion XL was a lifesaver for me and many others until the FDA pulled it from the market. Anchen and Actavis were disasters for me. I now pay the high cost of Wellbutrin because TEVA Budeprion is no longer available. I no longer waste my time trying any generic version of Wellbutrin again regardless of who makes it. It's brand Wellbutrin forever, regardless of the cost.
I've been taking Wellbutrin XL 300mg for almost a year. This refill the pharmacy gave me Mylan-bupropion XL. I'm feeling really edgy, irritable, and down right depressed. Is there a difference in these drugs. If not in the drug in the fillers?
Ready to bang my head against the wall here.
Yes. Apparently there is a big difference in each manufacturers bupropion in the way it affects each individual. I can't take watson or activas but had a good result with mylan! If you read all these posts you'll see that each manufacturers bupropion affects each individual differently. Right now I am stuck taking a months supply of the activas brand and have a constant headache, crying, anger and confusion. When I took the mylan a month ago my mind was clear as a bell, I was happy and unemotional but my pharmacist is forcing me to take the substandard activas product which is also watson. Activas just merged with watson and the watson has been pulled off the market by the fda. As far as I am concerned the watson is now being sold as activas. It's a horribly dirty form of buproprion but there are others on here that swear by it!
I've researched it and it appears to be legitimate. Don't know why Valeant is doing it but it's most likely a marketing ploy of some kind. Maybe they finally realized they priced them themselves out of the market with a drug that is so expensive that many insurance companies will not cover at any premium, co-insurance or deductible cost. The big question is how long will it last. I've got a prescription refill for Wellbutrin XL from my insurance company for February 15 at the earliest. Will definitely call Direct Success at that time and get as many refills as possible before, and if, Valeant discontinues the program.
Its ridiculous this is still an ongoing issue after all these years! All of these generics need to be yanked off the shelf as none of them hold a candle to the genuine product. I've been on Wellbutrin XL for over 7 years now and have tried a few of the generics as well as the name brand and have discovered that the name brand is really the only way to go (in most cases). Hopefully this will change whenever the patent ends in 2018.
Couple things about the name brand:
1) The Wellbutrin XL (Valeant) from Canada does NOT use the exact same ingredients as the Wellbutrin XL (Valeant) that you can find here in the US (150mg or 300mg pills). Both are similar; however, there is a difference.
A) If you navigate to the following URL and search for the Canadian Wellbutrin XL or SR, then click the appropriate type of the pill, it should take you to a page with a downloadable PDF file containing the inactive ingredients:
webprod5.hc-sc.gc.ca/dpd-bdpp/newSearch-nouvelleRecherche.do?lang=eng
i) The Canadian version of Wellbutrin XL has an orange label on the bottle and a purple "WXL 150" imprint on the pills
B) Wellbutrin XL (Valeant) inactive ingredients: ethylcellulose aqueous dispersion, glyceryl behenate, methacrylic acid copolymer dispersion, polyvinyl alcohol, polyethylene glycol, povidone, silicon dioxide, and triethyl citrate.
Overall, I noticed the US (Valeant) version to be stronger than the Canadian (Valeant) version. So the only place to purchase the REAL (or strongest) Wellbutrin XL, is in the US.
i) The US version of Wellbutrin XL has a blue label and a "Wellbutrin XL 150" or "Wellbutrin XL 300" imprint on the pills
2) Wellbutrin XL pills from Turkey are horrible and comparable to the generics
3) FYI - I've used CanadaDrugs in the past and they have the genuine Wellbutrin XL (Valeant) Canadian version for a decent price (currently ~$150 USD for a 3 month supply)
Coupons:
1) This Wellbutrin XL Coupon got me $150 off of an ~$850+ 3 month supply.
A) This, however, will be my last purchase of the US version (until the prices come down), if ever
B) The pharmacist told me tonight that he only sees the prices going UP as time goes by, so get ready for more price hikes
Anyone know if Edgemont Pharmaceuticals is making a OneFivo?
