What Is The Best Generic Version Of Wellbutrin Xl - Watson Or Anchen? (Page 14)
UpdatedMy doctor will not prescribe generic Wellbutrin XL but my insurance will no longer pay for brand name drugs. I will have to pay about $7000 per yer for what I am taking now (3 of the 150mg Wellbutrin XL brand name per day). I am reading that the problem with the generics is the time release mechanism and not the drug itself and that some are better than others. Anybody have experience with the generics made by Watson and /or Anchen?
I noticed an improvement in mood and especially motivation pretty quickly from the Mylan (XL 150.) Maybe in less than 1 week? There was a bit of a speedy effect the first 2-3 weeks, and I had to quit drinking strong coffees for a while. I also had to quit alcohol the first 2 weeks or so.
It took from a Monday night until the next Monday night so it was literally 7 days until he even told me "mom, thanks for getting that med thing fixed - I feel so much better now" - that's how much difference he felt. Before that he would growl at me instead of speaking to me. It was really scary.
The Milan and Watson both were similar to the actavis, but didn't seem to have the same "oomph" for lack of a better word, and I still tanked fairly early in the evening - I also still wake up at night and can't sleep - not wired, desperately want to sleep, but sad and start feeling waaaay down like things will never get better. Really hard to get up in the morning still, too. The actavis helped me the most - better mood, better energy level sustained through my day could stay awake until 10/10:30 then sleep through he night and wake rested. Anchen was like being on nothing. Milan/Watson helped, but not as much as the actavis. If I could get the actavis I'd be fine with staying generic, but if I can't get it anywhere I may end up being forced to go brand. Oh, I was losing weight (appropriate to my diet & exercise levels) on actavis, but am gaining no matter what I do on the other generics
I take the generic called Bupropion HCL XL. I've never taken the name brand, but I've had good results with this generic. Hope this helps! May want to consider changing doctors for this medication.
The generics that we are discussing are all Bupropion - it's the different manufacturers of the Bupropion that are at issue, as they all have differences in the timed release delivery - that is the factor that is affecting all of us. Generic meds only have to be +/- 20% the same active bioavailability of the brand - which is actually a huge difference if you think about it!
Mimi, I thought I learned this from someone else on this thread, but repeating it here: Check with Costco.com pharmacy or your local Costco about filling your scripts. I am paying <70.00 for 90 300 mg tabs. It's AMAZING. That is generic for sure. And I love my Buproprian. But I know it varies for everyone.
Just called my insurance company - it will cost me $912.48 for a 3 month supply of name brand Wellbutrin XL 300mg. The only generic I've tried that works for me is Actavis South - I have tried Anchen/Par, Mylan, and most recently, Watson. No one carries Actavis in my area any longer. There is no way I can afford 300/month AFTER insurance, THIS IS RIDICULOUS - $30/month for generic, 10 times that for brand - Heck, $100 for brand would be hard enough ... I just want to curl up and cry, ... maybe that light I was seeing at the end of the tunnel really was an oncoming train ... maybe if I add an instant release in a lower dosage in the early afternoon? IDK, I'm just so lost, frustrated, and angry ... it's not acne medicine, for cryin' out loud! And it's not like I just don't want to try the generic - I have tried them all -
Sorry for the rant - I guess it didn't help when my dear husband said everyones depressed they just need to get over it ......... like HE's gonna understand me wanting to pay that much for brand ...
I would say look back in the discussion, but don't remember how far. Check with Big Mountain Drugs in Canada. Tell them you want the Brand from Bioval in Canada (not Turkey). I have been buying brand from them for nearly 4 years now. I take 3 - 150 mg daily. So get 270 of the 150 mg brand Wellbutrin XL and pay about $400 including shipping. This is a 3 month supply. I have not been able to take any of the generics. So I had to do the research to figure out a way to get the brand and this is what I found. Good luck.
Has anyone heard whether or not Mylan has submitted the bioequivalence data (on their generic version of Wellbutrin XL, 300 mg. tabs) that the FDA said they wanted by March, 2013? I had to switch to Mylan's generic version of Wellbutrin XL 300 mg. today to tide me over until the order I placed for the name brand arrives in the mail. Got it at Walgreen's. It sounds like Mylan to date has not submitted data that demonstrates their generic 300 mg. (Wellbutrin XL) is bioequivalent to the name brand. Couldn't find anything on FDA's website, except that FDA asked the manufacturers of all the generics of the above to submit their data by March, 2013.
generic wellbutrin xl by Actavis South was recalled last year -- mediguard.org/alerts/alert/2012.html -- possibly why you cannot find it. Watson has purchased Actavis and has changed their name to ... Actavis. Perhaps you should try Watson/Actavis (not Actavis South) again. I know everyone is different but I have been using Watson for long time and have found no difference from when I was using brand.
i have not, i looked on the fda website and i have not seen anything. if you find this please please please let me know. i
How is the Mylan working for you? I started taking it 25 days ago and still do not feel better.
Today was my first day on the Mylan generic version of Wellbutrin XL 300 mg. So far, the only difference I can tell between it and the name brand is that the tightness and pain in my upper back muscles is a lot worse, and I'm even more spaced out than the name brand has been making me for the past few weeks. I guess if that's the worst of it, I should consider myself lucky, but this was my first day on it so a lot remains to be seen...
I've been taking the brand name Webutrin XL 300mg for many years now. I just recently ran out of my last bottle of the brand name. When I went to refill it shortly before I was completely out, I found out my insurance company will no longer cover the brand name even with a prior authorization from the doctor. I tried the generic version in the past and found that it did not work. I tried it at least 3 different times with the same results. I figured I'd give the generic another shot, given the circumstances. I decided to try it before I was completely out of the brand name so I could do some direct comparisons. I took the generic for 3 days. It felt like I hadn't taken anything except for the fact that I felt nautious and dizzy for those 3 days. I decided to switch back to the brand name on the 4th day and noticed a huge difference immediately. Everything seemed to be working properly. The nausea & dizziness was gone. I took the generic the next day just to make sure I wasn't just sick those 1st 3 days. Once again, it was like night and day compared to the brand name. The nausea & dizziness came back and along with it, the symptoms of my depression. For the following 2 days, I took my last 2 brand name pills & found everything back to normal. I am absolutely 100% convinced that the generic does not work. The version I tried was distributed by Anchem. I have not tried any other versions yet. I've read numerous posts from patients describing the same kinds of problems with the generic, but it seems to be all of the manufacturers of the generic. I read the FDA's statement about pulling one manufacturer's version, Budeprion, completely off the market because they found it to be ineffective. In addition to that, they ordered that the other 4 manufacturers of the generic conduct studies to prove that their drug is in fact the bioequivelent to the brand name. What i do not understand is why they didn't pull those 4 manufacturer's versions off the market until they could be proven to be as effective? After all, they would not be demanding for those studies if they were sure that the drugs were as effective. Also, why isn't the FDA conducting their own independent study of each of the 4 manufacturer's versions of this drug. This all seems crazy to me. Isn't the FDA supposed to be protecting us?! I am very frustrated because I cannot afford to pay for the brand name with no insurance coverage. I'd like to know what options I have. I can tell you after being completely off the medication for almost a month now, I am very concerned. My depression seems to be worse than it has ever been.
New Walgreens generic Wellbutrin. Ready to blow top of head off. Have never felt so lousy in my life. 3 weeks into change in mfg of generic Wellbutrin and I am so not myself! I decided to check and see if they were again having the problems they had a few years ago when Walgreen's switched suppliers. I called and talked to the pharmacist and he told me I had been on Activis (thanks to this site for supplying the info I needed). He could special order it, my insurance will cover it. So assuming it's still available I will know tomorrow if I can get it back again. I will have to let them know a couple of days before I run out so they can order again. He's going to set the entire bottle of 90 aside with my name, insurance won't pay for 90 days at once through Walgreens.
I agree Watson Activis works well. YOu can special order it through COSTCO and its only $35.00
I have tried the generic Wellbutrin XL 300mg. made by Anchen and for me it has NOT been effective at all.
I originally started with the brand name and it worked fine. My pharmacy then switched to generic made by Teva (budeprion), did not work. They switched to another generic (bupropion) that did work, but I can't remember who made it.
Then I had to go to Kaiser insurance, and they gave me Anchen. I will be going back to try another generic that they have. Hope it works, because I cannot afford the name brand.
I just had my doc write me a brand only rx for one month to see if the brand will be any better. Anchen does NOT work for me, neither does Mylan (that one is HORRIBLE) - Actavis did work but I can't get it anywhere - I can get Watson (who is now merged with actavis - but it's not the same pill) the Watson worked better than the other two, but not as well as the "original" actavis ... but I had a terrible lower gi issue after a month on it. I couldn't believe it when I picked up the brand - it was $325 for ONE MONTH - maybe I should hope it's no better than the Watson I can get ... sooo frustrated that I can't get the one generic that actually helps me
How do you know which TYPE of Bupropion youre taking? ...As in, "Mylan" "Activas"? I just started taking 150mg XL daily as of YESTERDAY and the only thing ive noticed so far is a little blurry vision when i focus too long (computer screen)
The brand name of the generic should be printed on the prescription bottle label.
