Nitrofurantoin is an antibiotic that can be used to treat various types of infections, but it usually isn't the first choice for a dental infection.

Hi Heidi,
I have my doubts, because Nitrofurantoin has poor tissue penetration and is not indicated to treat anything other than simple cystitis (urinary tract infections).
I would however recommend using clove essential oil for tooth and mouth related infections. Not only does it numb the pain, but it also kills the infection. A cheap natural alternative to prescription drugs, that is more effective in my opinion.
I hope this helps!
