Wellbutrin Xl 300mg And Hairloss

I've been taking Wellbutrin XL 300mg since the middle of March and for the last month or so I've noticed I'm losing a lot of hair and my hair has thinned out a lot. It's getting to the point that I'm scared of brushing it. Does anyone know if this will get better or will I have to quit the medication? I really like how well Wellbutrin works but I don't want to be bald!

Yes, as reported by the U.S. FDA, this medication has been known to cause hair loss, in some people that take it, you may also experience dizziness, headache and mood swings.

However yes, it should go away, once you stop taking the medication. But, rather than stopping abruptly, you should consult your doctor about tapering it, or switching to a different medication.

Is the only medication that you take?

Sorry for the late reply. This is the only medication I am on.
Around the same time that I started taking Wellbutrin I got off the birth control pill, and I've also lost almost 30 pounds since then so I'm not sure what is responsible for the hair loss. I went to my doctor and she is sending me to get my thyroid and iron checked so hopefully I get some answers. She didn't think my hair loss was from the Wellbutrin.

I am having the same exact issue. I've had hairloss for years but never thought it was the Wellbutrin. The Dr. Increased my dose 3 months ago from 150xl to 300 and last week I expirienced a MAJOR shed. I was worried that I would have to get a hairpiece. After doing research online I realize that all along my hairloss was probably from the Wellbutrin and it was minimal until after my dose was increased. My Dr doesn't think so though. I've started to taper down to 150 again. This makes me so upset because I really loved being on the 300- I was feeling great and losin weight. Now I'm worried I will have no energy and gain what I've lost- but I can't lose any more hair. Can you share what you decided to do? Thanks so much!!
