What does the XR part of the subject RX mean?

It is just one of several abbreviations used to denote that the medictaion is a sustained release or controlled release formulation.

This means that instead of being released all at once, the tablet has been specially formulated to slowly release the active ingredient over the relevant number of dosing hours.
