Weird Menstrual Cycle Help!

Updated

Alright so I began using Lo Loestrin Fe in January. I normally get my period around the end of the month but of course our periods fall on different days every month so it gradually turns into the beginning of the next month. In February when I took it like normal my period came on Feb 27 and ended March 2. Then on March 12 I started bleeding again and it didn't dry off until the 19th. My question is when is was that another period? How could it be when I just had one a week earlier. I have a period tracking app and it tracked that I would have another period either March 26th or 27th but when I logged the weird bleeding I had on the 12th it said my period would come on April 7th. As you can imagine I'm concerned because I don't know now when my periods going to come.

Hello, Alex! How are you?

Okay, first it is normal to have some breakthrough bleeding and unusual cycles the first few months that you are taking it, because it is a hormonal contraceptive and your body needs time to adjust to it.

And it will also be in control of when you get your period, your prior pattern will no longer apply. You will start your period the last week of the pill pack, once your body gets used to it.

Is there anything else I can help with?

Hi Alex!
I've been on Lo Loestrin Fe since July 2013. I started taking it for SEVERE menstrual cramping. The first month was beautiful, like cloud nine status (corny, I know), barely any cramping and reduced bleeding. However, my OB said that because of the severely reduced level of estrogen (the lowest on the market) there would be breakthrough bleeding. The second through fourth packs I had a sort of period in the middle of the month, then spotting when I was supposed to have a period (the white and brown pills). I then for two months I had a period in the middle of the pack and nothing at the end of it. My OB said it was normal, it just took my body longer to register the hormone drop. Then for a month I didn't have a period, followed by a raging terrible one at the end of January. Now, barely spotting at the end of the pack. So to sum up my experience, and to give you peace of mind with yours, it will take your body between pack 7 and pack 13 to adjust. What is going on with you is completely normal, and a pain, but it will eventually get better :). Is there anything else you need help with?
