I have been on Pristiq now since November of 2008...not quite 5 months...and I have put on 15 lbs since starting it. DESPITE working out with a trainer at the gym twice a week weight training, 3 days a week of cardio AND counting calories. My doc assured me that I would also have a decreased appetite on Pristiq, which I have yet to find true...so he has now increased my dosage to 400 mg. Does anyone have anything to add to this?? I'm just frustrated!

Since the weight gain and subsequent discontinuation of Pristiq, I have been to my gyn and an endocrinologist. My hormones and glands tests results are "within range." I am going to another endocrinologist this Tuesday. I don't think the last doctor was good. Not all doctors know their stuff. I think the opinion of the medical community is post-menopausal women have low hormones and get fat. Well, please explain Suzanne Sommers and Jane Fonda. I don't buy it. If they can prescribe T for men with SD they can prescribe me something too. I'm mad; can you tell?

I have been on Pristiq for a few months now and as a college student who goes to the gym for at least one hour five days a week the 10 lb weight gain made no sense. It has made me so depressed. I have no sex drive. I tried to stop the first day off ir I couldnt stand up without feeling like I was going to pass out. I also felt like my heart was going to explode. I hate this drug and want off ASAP but im too scared to do it alone. The "positive mood" was quickly trampled on by 10 lbs of self hate and the inability to walk in a straight line

I read Pristiq is also being given to help "balance"
Hormones in menopausal women, experiencing hot flashes, ! So, beside this being a marketing tool to make even more profit for the pharmaceutical company,
If it does mess with hormonal balance this could be one of reasons we can't get the weight off! We need to find
Out if there is an imbalance and how to correct it...
I know this isn't easy...but it's worth a try..
Our FDA approved it for this use! Knowing full well it
should be taken off the market after all of the problems
It has caused....

Heys guys I know exactly how u feel. I gained 40 pounds, I was already overweight to begin with but now I can't even get 2 pounds off! Doctors really should NOT be prescribing this stupid drug #Pristiq!!!!!!!

Christie I'm convince it messes with your metabolism. I've not lost a pound since stop using Pristiq which has been months now. Also the psychiatrist I had knew I had high blood pressure and cholesterol which when taking Pristiq increased my triglyceride to 496 and my BP to 179/105, and from what I read a Dr. is not to prescript it to patients with high blood pressure and cholesterol. Both were doing fine prior to taking the meds. The FDA really needs to run further testing on this drug cause all these people in this group alone all have the same weight gain problem after taking Pristiq.

I have been on Pristiq for several months now and have gained almost 20 lbs. I do feel a lot better, but I am now the heaviest that I have ever been.

That's the biggest BS I've ever heard. I gained 20 lbs on paxil and now 15 on pristiq. I'm a tiny person usually. only when I'm in these needs do I gain weight. without overeating or any Chang in my diet. And easy too many people complain about the same thing for it to not be proven. That doesn't mean the drugs don't work because they do. But in my personal experience you have to be willing to deal the side effects of meds or the disorder. I prefer getting thin than overweight

On the Body by Vi diet, and working out for about 6 or 7 weeks now. Have not lost a single pound of this weigh gain crap! ugh!

Oh my goodness!!! Thank God for the internet. I have been taking Pristiq for I'd say 3 months and I have gained 40 pounds!! Sleep has definitely become my bestfriend. I have completely withdrawn from life. All I do now is sleep. It is so reassuring to know that I am not alone. I have stopped taking it cold turkey for about a month now. Just like others have said, if I missed a dose or was late taking it I was extremely nauseated, dizzy and oddly enough I felt like I had been licking a battery. You know what I mean? The zinging feeling u get when u lick a battery, yea that was a constant side effect for me if I was late or missed a dose. Never again will I take this drug, I would rather be depressed ...

I had a spinal surgery and the Dr dropped a small tool in me. So they made an 6 plus incision vertically in my stomach as they search for the tool dropped into my stomach they cut some nerves going down my right leg and in the bladder area. They thought I would not walk again but I can with determination and have work hard to be able to walk again and I have which surprise the Dr. But then this psychiatrist decided I was depress and put me on that pristiq and well you all know the rest of the story. So ladies please try hard to find a way to drop the weight.

Hang in Debbie, Rachel is right, dedication to a healthy life style is necessary. And Patience another important key. What also helps me is that I took on this attitude that I Will Not let this "drug" win the battle!! Everytime I work out and if I get a chance to punch the "weight" bag I visualize myself getting Myself Back! Its Your Life
don't let the drug/drug company win. It is rough at times but you can do it..I have also lowered my salt intake
And eat alot of fiber!! So take care, we're all in this together!

I have been Pristiq free since September. The bloating finally went away, but I still haven't lost any of the 15 pounds or so I gained. I work out regularly and am now beginning the Weight Watchers program. It's very frustrating that I took this medicine for such a short time and have had such a hard time getting my body to respond to exercise and diet in the after-math. There is no quick fix. Dedication to a healthier lifestyle. And patience. That's the only answers there are.

Hey- r u still on the pristiq ... I too am doing a green smothie cleanse, which I'm sure is not the way to do it, but I have to see if the bloating will go down... I think if you r off the pristiq you have to give it at least a month of 1-clean eating, 2-exercise , this medication has been in the body and it a screws up with ur hormones .. I eat clean ALL the to e and exercise everyday so I will see how it goes.. Right now I'm not happy but I have to stay focused!!! Eventually, the weight (bloat) she go down !! I HOPE!!

I have posted several times here about the drastic and seemingly permanent weight gain around my stomach since taking Pistiq. According to my PCP my bloodwork is good. Whatever, I am scheduled to see an endicrinologist later this month. I will request a full workup. Additionally, my latest effort to get rid of the fat has been an 8 day juice fast. Obviously this has helped but my stomach is still larger than it ever was in my life. I am slowly introducing solid foods. As my energy increases , I will add exercise and see how the stomach goes down. I am also coming off the standard American diet (SAD). I am going to try to eat more raw veggies and little fruit. No flour/wheat and no sugar. This is pretty drastic but I MUST do something to battle this unsightly fat around my stomach. YUK!

How awful! I am going to work out like a fiend and I am trying the body by Vi shape supplement system, as well as an herbal tummy wrap. i'll keep you posted!

Christie I've been off it for months and have not been able to lose any of the 30 plus pounds I put on from taking Pristiq. I know that is not what you wanted to hear but that is what is going on with my experience with it.

hi i stopped taking pristiq and i have gained almost 8lbs. this is more depressing than anything.. when you went off did ;your weight return to normal... i am praying that it does.. i want off because it was doing nothing for me(and i did not gain weight on the pill) i only see a difference coming off the pill
