Weight Gain On Cymbalta
UpdatedI was on Celexa for about 2 years, minimal weight gain, Dr switched me to Cymbalta in Oct to address menopausal symptoms. I feel great but have gained 15 pounds since October. I have been watching my diet faithfully, have completely cut out soda, potato chips, sweets - I am existing on cheerios for breakfast, fruit for lunch, and a sensible meal at dinner. I feel bloated and look pregnant. Will this weight go away if I stop cymbalta? This is ridiculous. None of my clothes fit anymore.

Also I seem to be mixing up numbers and letters sometimes - almost like I've suddenly become dyslexic. And I get brain zaps about mid-afternoon every day. I want to stop cymbalta but I'm really worried about the side effects. But the weight gain and other things I'm going thru make me wonder if it's worth it.
It's really difficult to say whether it's all due to the Cymbalta, menopausal issues, or a combination of both.

These types of medications can cause some weight gain, but that weight gain that centers around your abdominal area is usually most typical of perimenopause or menopause.
The mental confusion that causes the other issues you've described, as well as the issues late in the day can also be from the hormonal fluctuations. They are very annoying and you may need something that will specifically help with them, such as a low dose contraceptive pill or hormone replacement therapy.
As to the weight around your middle, you are getting older and it may be that eating sensibly just isn't enough anymore, when coupled with the changes in your body. You may need to seriously up your exercise regimen, or start one if you don't already have one.
Have your hormone levels been tested to see where they are?
Like you, I'd like to know if the weight gain comes off after I go off Cymbalta. Within six months of being on Cymbalta I gained 60 pounds. I stabilized and have remained the same weight for the last two years. I want to come off Cymbalta because it's too expensive and I do think it's the cause of the weight gain.
Yes it does!! I took it for ONE day, and was immediately constipated, hence the weight gain! All in the abdominal area!! Screw this!! It took three days for my bloated stomach to go away!
